HERE Maps, Nokia’s mapping service, and quite soon one of the main parts of Nokia once Microsoft takes over the D&S is coming to all Windows 8 devices (currently it’s only available for the Lumia 2520). The app will be free for all devices running Windows 8 (RT or not) and will be available in the store soon (starting with North America and Europe).

Today we’re delighted to announce that the HERE Maps application for Windows 8.1, currently only available on the Nokia Lumia 2520, will soon be available forall Windows 8.1 devices, including laptops, desktops and tablets. Both Windows RT and Pro devices will be supported. The app will be free and available from the Windows Store.

It seems this is the start of the push towards a more global HERE mapping service, once the devices sector of Nokia is gone; Nokia did the same thing with the WP8 version a while back, where at first it was Nokia’s only, then became integrated into the whole OS. Hopefully we’ll continue to see Nokia expand its foothold in the mapping division (and maybe they’ll bring back the iOS app too).
