HTCopypasta puts Nokia’s double tap to unlock within “Motion Launch” feature
First LG, and no surprise, HTCopypasta. I watched a promo from AT&T for the new HTC One which showed off a “new feature called motion launch”. Basically, double tap to wake. Popularised by Nokia’s N9. There might be more to it but the AT&T video doesn’t make it clear (update: there is. Some contextual activation which is actually interesting and not really shown in the video).
Of course, that’s not the only thing HTC’s bringing in. Earlier in the week we saw them bring Nokia Camera UI to the HTC One.
There’s also a different take on the ‘Nokia refocus’ thingy, though we do give them some kudos for an interesting take on it since the dual camera removes the need for ‘waiting’ to take multiple shots or enter a different mode (is it just from the main camera app?).
Finally, the casing. It’s a bit like Nokia’s always on screen, popularised also by the N9 (though it lived on before that) and now on Lumia, with double tap to wake, as Nokia Glance. Admittedly, it is ‘different’ so kudos, HTC :). It might have been nicer to just take Nokia Glance already, since the ONE is a pretty design. Shame to hide it under that retro thingy.
It’s possibly natural for everyone to get inspiration from others. HTC just gets a lot from Nokia, yet mocks them for things like 808’S PureView despite having a severely inferior Ultra Pixel. Yup, still haven’t forgotten that one :p. We wouldn’t mind if Nokia and MS continue to get ‘inspiration’ from others too, if they just did it quickly enough.
