A new post from Janne shows Nokia HQ welcoming Nokia to their ‘new’ campus. Cheers Janne!

The new Nokia HQ welcomes Nokia to their new/old campus, what’s next?

Here is a photograph of mine of the new Nokia HQ, with a banner that went up this week welcoming Nokia to their new main campus at the Karakaari/Karaportti area of Espoo, Finland, a long-time stronghold of Nokia’s networking operation. NSN’s HQ building is nearby, as are a dozen or so other Nokia and NSN operated office buildings. This is not the only campus Nokia/NSN have in Espoo, they have another fairly new one in Säteri, Espoo. The old HQ in Keilaniemi, much older than the new HQ, was geographically separate of the main operation.

For us interested in what Nokia will do next, now that D&S has been sold, (see e.g. http://mynokiablog.com/2013/12/27/mnb-rg-nokia-cto-office-mystery-android-meltemi-wearables/) a new URL has popped up that begs watching:

It is widely expected that Nokia will announce a new CEO and parts of the new strategy this Tuesday. This stuff will probably go up at the address below. Insider sources suggest NSN’s CEO Rajeev Suri will get the nod. Also, in recent news (referring th the CTO office mystery link above), 20 something Nokia’s CTO people did move to Micorsoft in the sale – unlike was originally announced. They may have been people related to the Nokia X project. Finally, the analyst opinion in Finland is that Nokia’s strategy announcement may be anti-climatic, as in nothing earthshatteringly new coming out.

Putting together the Rajeev Suri part, the CTO office tip, the analyst opinion and the fact that very little since last autumn has been heard of any Nokia consumer product plans, it seems likely to me that whatever news of the strategy we get, they may not immediately be interesting for us consumer-space watchers. It seems to me that Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) will play a key role, as well as building up technology, parts and materials licensing (perhaps similar to Bosch making parts for car companies or, as jiipee suggests, similar to Zeiss making camera parts for smartphones). HERE, perhaps, is the only unknown quantity with a consumer-facing side to it, others are industry businesses targeting business customers.

Anyway, it shouldn’t be too long before we know a little bit more about what the next chapter for the Nokia company is.
