No more sleepless nights for Risto Siilasmaa, “Microsoft deal was our best alternative”

I chose this picture intentionally, since most seem to be under the impression that Elop has the ability to sell a company with a wave of his magic wand. He can't.

Risto speaks to YLE in a 40 minute interview. It’s in Finnish so I’m going to have to rely on some of the text translations here.

Their title says that he hopes that Finland would never be dependent on one company. It seems that whilst Nokia was in a position to be successful, it was a difficult road and with money running out, the big decisions taking place were from Microsoft’s side.

ZNet’s Eeva Haaramo explains the original article better. When Siilasmaa discovered the situation Nokia was in, he had many sleepless nights thinking that something had to be done prior to the Nokia-MS deal.

In hindsight, Siilasmaa thinks this has been the best option for Nokia and there could have been no better alternatives. For what remains of the company at least, that bit appears to be healthy and profitable with HERE, NSN and Advanced Technologies.
