Snuffing out the Nokia Brand – goodbye Pure and Nokia tune

@evleaks has revealed details on how Microsoft plans to ‘transition’ the Nokia brand.

Microsoft has the right to use the Nokia brand for 10 years on mobile phones, up until 31st December 2015 for Nokia X devices and for just 18 months ‘post-close’ for Nokia Lumia devices.

Current advertising partners will be kept. All content related to Nokia devices and services will transfer to Microsoft.

In terms of retail stores, this is still something in consideration. Until further guidance, Nokia retail stores stay the same on ‘Day One’. MS are carefully planning how and when to introduce the MS brand over a significant amount of time. Likewise for Nokia Care Centres.

Pure font will disappear, in favour of a more MS look with segoe.

Nokia Tune, Nokia Connecting people and Nokia hands stays with Nokia as MS has not bought the rights to these. For now, all phones with Nokia have the Nokia tune but will in future potentially snuff this out. They’re considering what impact this has.

Those with twitter accounts saying Nokia are advised to change them. It’s interesting that they choose John Pope as an example (JohnAtNokia). I think John left prior to the MS deal becoming public.

I would have rather they kept Nokia as much of a whole as possible. The spirit of the Nokians will be there still, but they’re making it ever so hard by gutting out the symbolism and memory of Nokia. At the end of the day, what exactly are you paying for?

If they haven’t purchased certain things that seem ‘essential’ why not do it at a later point?

Cheers Alvester for the tip!
