Lumia moments capture doing a terrific job; comparison with oversampling

PicsPlay_1423305751230Steve Litchfield compared the Lumia Camera 5 capabilities to extract 8mp images from 4k video.

In comparison to what is sort of the gold standard, oversampling,  he says it does a terrific job.  Oversampling at 5MP is noticeably better  but it was surprisingly doing a ‘good enough job’ .

The amount of work needed to be done by Lumia Moments shouldn’t be underestimated – if extracting good stills from video was easy there would be far more bits of software to do it, on all mobile platforms.

Lumia Moments, integrated into the editing workflow in Lumia Camera 5, actually does a terrific job, producing results that are very definitely comparable to traditional photos and with hardly any tell-tale signs that they’re from original video material.

The beauty with moment capture is that it is meant to capture different things… Moving things.  Moreover,  you simply hold down the REAL camera button to begin filming in 4k ready for extraction.  One of the things I have found useful on my note 4 is a quick (though digital) video button,  but I would gladly welcome a shortcut to instantly film in 4k too,  let alone being able to take stills post video.

Is moments capture good enough for you? Have you made uses for it?

Cheers Alvesterfor the tip!
