‘Leaked’ Nokia ‘P’ – Nokia 515 Prototype

As pointed out by our readers here, facebook and friends on twitter, the picture making the rounds yesterday that was labelled as the Nokia ‘codename P’ was actually a Nokia 515 feature phone from 2013. Cheers for the eagle eyes peeps!

Fortunately it seemed we weren’t the only ones getting mislead by the optical illusion of the keyboard lines being mistaken as reflections on a glossy glass screen. It’s worse for certain displays with bad viewing angles (hello macbook air) as the lines are made less obvious.

The back, whilst looking very similar, doesn’t have those antenna lines or the speaker. The button placements are also quite different….so are they different phones?

Apparently the ‘leak’ photo has been around much longer. See it here from January 2016.

As cleared up on twitter, it was indeed a prototype Nokia 515. Same lines.

The comments questioning the Nokia nature of the ‘leaked’ design (rather than a random phone with a Nokia badge) are still valid despite the phone being an active Nokia design probably from at least 2012 (released in 2013). I think the actual released 515 looked nicer and cleaner. Still, Nokia is known for more distinct designs (except maybe the Nokia iPad mini N1) rather than one that would get lost in a sea of competitors.

The rumoured specs could still be real and there maybe more ‘Nokia’ style to the design.

Here’s a CJ hands on with the 515…it kinda reminded me of the black N82.

Cheers everyone for your comments!

p.s. theme reverted back as diagnosing some instabilities.
