HD Video: Nokia N8 Final Firmware Review?- plus Need for Speed Shift
Advertisements
According to GSMonline.pl, this is the “final version of Symbian^3” for the Nokia N8. Is that as in final firmware? It’s dated (At least on the phone) to only be 10th September. If that’s correct and this N8 has the latest firmware then this should be the commercial firmware that we’ll be getting (and then some regional variations).
Thus, no excuse for any delays, bugs, whatsoever having waited so long for this handset?
- Usual N8 hands on demo
- YouTube can play flash or via the N8’s own media player – like all Symbian handsets.
- Need for Speed Shift – click HD to watch the 720p recording of this video to at least better appreciate the N8’s widescreen gaming. NFS looks very fluid.. btw, NFS got exited via menu button, not crashing. Though I’m wondering what portion got cut. Crash? Delay? Personal info from call on the screen? Who knows. There seems to be subtle cuts in a few places. Perhaps to tidy the video up? I’d rather see all the hold ups if possible future video folk. Just blur if there are sensitive info.
- Maps is opening up pretty quick, (and it wasn’t already open). GPS lock was subsequently a couple of seconds after viewing the map. Pretty good for those moments you just want to check “where am i?” and then the subsequent navigation.
- Other apps do open up quicker (by symbian standards), though it would help IMMENSELY, if there were more animations to distract you from the loading.
- Screen Rotation takes awfully long – BUT – recording phones on a flat surface – it’s difficult to get the angle to rotate the phone (whilst still being in the view finder). Happened many a times with me on the N900 and we’ve seen that it’s ridiculously fast at rotating from landscape to portrait and vice versa (when available).
- Loading sites over 3G (Poland) seems sufficiently quick, especially with heavy flash. It’s worth noting though that the N8 will get a much improved (hopefully anyway) browser soon after launch.
