HD Video: Nokia N8 720p videos, edited in iMovie: Rally HD and Mater Gymnasium

Below are a couple of videos supposedly recorded by the Nokia N8 and later edited on iMovie by Soren Rose Studios.

The shots in the car look remarkably steady – a little too steady. Special steady mount? (Or perhaps my unbelievably tired brain not being able to analyse the vids properly.)

The first video looks KINDA fake to me. You can see from 0:34 to 0:37 that they did an optical zoom-in – zoom-out. Also, like you mentioned, the video looks a bit too stabilized.
But then again, everything in the video is sharply focused so I can’t really tell.

The second video, however, looks much more like N8.

yea that was a bit odd; maybe that’s how nokia has the digital zoom working? when you flow from 1x-3x?

the blandness in colour (the impression i get of the n8 camera) seems accurate though

    • Duncan says:

If you watch the video on the alleged “optical zoom”, the picture pixelates when the zoom effect happens. This leads me to believe that this is a digital zoom effect done with iMovie in order to accentuate the ’2015′ name.

Would like to hear some rumours about new phones

  3. Roger Johnson says:

Something’s going on somewhere with that 2nd video because I’ve seen MUCH more stable N8 videos (yes, including non-pro ones that are unedited). That one’s kinda jerky.

Also just to correct the above posters, N8 has totally smooth zoom that’s almost as good as optical.

When potential exceeds ambition, or purpose exceeds potential, the likelihood of success is limited.
