Socially App new beta improves performance and refreshes UI
Socially, a free social networking app for symbian devices, one of the firsts to bring contacts integration, has now released a beta version (3.0) with a refreshed UI,speed improvements and few functionality tweaks.
Changelog and features :
What’s new in this version?(a) a completely new and rewritten engine to deliver faster performance
(b) removing the many UE quirks that have been confusing and frustrating our users
(c) building optimized user experience separately for v3 and v5 handsets
(d) improved Social Notifications – 5 mins refresh & customization by social networkNo new social features have been added in this version. Also, only Facebook & Twitter are active in this beta release.
Having used it extensively for my earlier s60 v3 device, it was pretty decent for managing all my social networks at one place, but when i tried to use it on my N8, it was bit slow and jittery, so i didn’t use it intensively since facebook/twitter contacts integration was native in Symbian^3(and also other reasons, mainly being performance). Now i downloaded this beta for my N8 and to be honest, i am now pretty happy with it. Lets take a look at its new UI, mainly the home page which adds a new title bar :
The extra options(down arrow, when in a client like twitter or facebook) on the title bar reveals a menu, which looks more like Android’s official twitter client’s home page.
Coming to other screens, i have uploaded them to a fairly self explanatory image gallery below, feel free to have a look. Performance, if you ask me, its a lot better than before and certainly better than the crappy Nokia social client, but definitely not as smooth as the Ovi store 2.0 or even the foursquare app( both WRT by the way ). Overall, nice touches to the UI and performance slightly better , but remember, its still in beta and is bound to improve definitely.
Now onto the image gallery.
