Nokia waiting for Mango, WP7.5, due October at earliest.
According to the Guardian, Nokia are waiting for Windows Phone Update called “Mango” aka Windows 7.5 which is due October at the earliest.
Amongst the updates, this would notably contain IE9, Multitasking, copy and paste (though Engadget says March -_-) Another “NoDo” update is said to be due March, perhaps there was some confusion as to which update is due (I think NoDo has Copy And Paste)
As far as dates are concerned, Elop and Harlow suggest a 2011 release of which we have 10 months left. In an interview with engadget, Elop told Ziegler that he (Elop) would find out about release date of Nokia’s first Windows Phone device in the next couple of months. To be fair, the blogosphere and Nokia have been careful to talk about only “Windows Phone” and not “Windows Phone 7” (of which suggested to some that Nokia would wait all the way up for WP8 due 2012).
The Guardian points out that refusal to be so specific in emitting certain details now stand out as it would have given away Microsoft’s then unannounced plans (I haven’t been following WP so I don’t know if this was the first time the updates were announced).
Both The Guardian and BGR cover a similar point on the “Death of the Zune brand“, of which “Zune’s music services” another omission during the MS-Nokia marriage ceremony last Friday. It rolls in to place that Ovi Music is being ramped down in lieu of whatever services Microsoft’s Zune would be renamed to.
