Windows Phone 7’s first update today
This possibly won’t concern most of you Nokia/Symbian/Maemo users unless you’ve picked one up to try (e.g. Andre) but Windows Phone 7 today get’s a small software update!
It’s the very first update for Windows Phone and has a few similarities with the infamous PR1.1 for Symbian^3 in that:
- It’s NOT the update everyone is waiting for
- Features coming in other update
- This is to fix stability/performance issues.
- It paves the way for FUTURE updates with the goodies inside!
When’s this update coming?
Apparently today. But quite helpfully, Windows Phone Blog points out it’s not coming to everyone at the same time (common industry practice, but good communication/informing users so they won’t get annoyed when their handset isn’t getting the update. Not that there’s that many people waiting at the moment anyway :p)
How To get the Update?
Here’s instructions from the WP Blog. Quite a few similarities. Connect to PC via additional software (Ovi Suite/Zune software) and before you can even update your phone, you have to update the PC app first!
You’ll need to connect your phone to your computer and update it using either the Zune software for your PC or the Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac (depending on which kind of computer you have).
So just install one of these programs, connect your phone to your computer via the USB cable, and then follow the on-screen instructions. I also strongly encourage you to check out our step-by-step guide for updating your phone on the Windows Phone website.
One last important word: If you’ve installed the Zune software or the Windows Phone 7 Connector in the past, you might actually need to update that program first and then use it to update your phone. If that’s the case, you’ll know. Just follow the on-screen instructions, restart the software, and then connect your phone.
