Welcome to Nokia Maps at maps.nokia.com. Bye Ovi Maps!
If you head over  to maps.ovi.com you’ll notice that you’ll be redirected to maps.nokia.com.
This was part of the expected rebranding of Nokia back from the slightly vague Ovi brand (that did not take of as well as it could have) to now consolidated, simpler, stronger Nokia brand. Nokia Maps was the original name of the service before become Ovi Maps in the initial rebranding of the internet software and services initiative.
Now we’ve seen a few things become called Nokia once again from Ovi. Even Nokia Maps branding was
seen with the last Ovi Maps update (Beta Labs called it Nokia Maps already).
Hopefully it won’t be too late to salvage the Nokia brand. There are still many places that Nokia means something very positive. But in the west, that’s somewhat heavily declining, gaining association of something outdated due to Nokia’s inability to come up with solid devices to rival the iPhone (up until of course, the N9).
Good thing for Nokia is that Nokia Maps is an absolute gem. Free turn by turn voice navigation, for pedestrian or drive, offline navigation, own voice for the turn by turn directions, extremely reliable routing (love it on my N8) with some breathtaking 3D mapping with street view (now at maps.nokia.com/3D). That’s not even half the stuff Nokia maps does.
Cheers lakhnachfi for the tip!
