Nokia Brings Kids Books to life with “Interactive Rich Reading” via Beta Labs

With all the buzz about Leaked handsets, competitions (yes I’m also hooked on N9seconds comp), and all the things people keep saying that Nokia is doing wrong, I can’t help but be happy that when it comes right down to it, Nokia stay their course and do what I have always loved, which is to create things which really make a difference, and this time it can help you in your own home if you have young kids.

Nokia Beta Labs in cooperation with Sesame Workshop (creators of Sesame Street), have created a great app which will help your kids to learn to read by bringing books to life and making them interactive. Elmo even asks questions so the child can truly be engaged by the experience. This should make learning fun and easier for parents and children.

The first book is “100th Day of School” and they need your feedback to make this available to everyone is a stable version, and so hopefully more books are released.

Key Features

  • Interactive character (in this case Elmo) asks questions
  • Optional Audio Narration (Although it is recommended for parents to read with the child)
  • Turn pages like a normal e-book

Gregory Elphinston, the Director of Community Involvement at Nokia introduces the application and outlines it’s key features (don’t forget with your feedback, anything missing may be possible for the Beta Labs team to add in future versions!)

(you will need to login/register at Nokia Beta Labs)

Enjoy!
