Nokia Code in Windows Phone Tango
Unlike other WP manufacturers, Nokia has the ability to change the direction of WP development as opposed to just making phones with WP software only. WP Mango was too far down the line, so it’s more Apollo where Nokia would have influence (as well as freedom to express their usual hardware expertise). On Monday, Nokia said they would bring Windows Phone to China, and the Nokia Lumia 610 with Tango (though they called it Mango) would likely be one of those handsets (or variant).
At The Verge, they confirm that Nokia Code is now in Windows Phone.
“Nokia “helped elevate the priority” of bringing Windows Phone devices to China says Sullivan, and devices are now expected to launch in the coming months.
Despite the close work between the pair, Sullivan says it will benefit all of Microsoft’s Windows Phone partners having Nokia add components directly into the Windows Phone codebase in future. Microsoft isn’t discussing exactly how Nokia will contribute software features to Windows Phone, but the Finnish company revealed to us this week that maps and location is a big part of that effort.”
It’s worth noting that it’s Nokia currently working to bring local variants of WP integrated services (XBL, twitter, FB) to Windows Phone.
