E3 Video: Xbox Smartglass
Microsoft unveilled something called Xbox Smartglass. This makes the content you watch and play even more immersive by having your phone and tablet deliver additional supplementary info. They showed in the demo that whilst watching a movie, your tablet/phone could show up cast details. Even better – on something like the Game of Thrones (a massive hit around the world) you can see precisely where a particular scene is happening on the map. This is just an example of how these screens can interrelate – not simply to be a mirror but to provide another facet of entertainment.
It’s an intelligent companion that pulls you deeper into the experience. Think Wii U but it works with current generation of devices. Speaking of which, check out the part when it interacts with games. Sure, MS smartglass may make it easier for developers make games with additional supplementary screen action for competing Wii U platform. What’s cool about this is that you can use existing devices. What you have right now just gets even more useful. After you’re done, it can resume function as a phone or tablet. Wii U’s additional gamepad content is a requirement so games would be built with that in mind. Does everyone have tablets/smartphones to act as a companion? Consider the install base of tablets and precisely how many Xbox 360s there will be out there in comparison to perhaps, how many Wii U will be out in a year. I think both may have a fair amount to entice developers to me a little bit more creative and utilise an enhancement screen.
As before with the Xbox Live companion app, you can use your phone (here lumia) to act as a remote control.
Finally, With Kinect and Xbox smartglass there MS is letting you surf the web. But now it’s not a clunky malformed experience – it’s once that aims to use Kinect and Smartglass to make TV browsing easy and fun. Well, supposedly.
BTW, Â is the Wii U’s Xbox 360 controller real or a joke?
