Camera speed start up, focus and capture comparison
Having the camera with you always is a huge bonus of them being integrated in your phone. Having superior quality in all conditions means that you make less of that compromise that most other smartphone camera owners have to.
Another aspect to consider is the start up time. With Nokia Camera on the 1020, the start up time is quite longer than I’d hope it would be. Shot to shot time too isn’t the best. It’s slightly quicker on the 1520 but could still be faster. A new processor in the Snapdragon 805 might change things up a bit but until then, we can only hope for further optimisations.
There’s a database that looks into start up time for cameras, AF lock time and time between shots. This is completely different to actual shutter speed times (that some have confused in comments).
Another thing that frustrates me with Nokia Camera is how it no longer bypasses the password lock like the actual default camera app can. This was so convenient as you can just take a picture and have access only to the pictures you’ve currently taken. The added time of holding the camera button, then unlocking the phone, then waiting for it to start – the moment might have gone already!
