Gigantic Nokia N97 Review! Live Pics, Sample Pics and Screenshots!
Here’s another Nokia N97 review, this time by mobile.mail.ru. The full review is very detailed, with plenty of live pictures, sample photos and screenshots. So if you’ve got some time and want to know how the N97 is getting along, it’s a really good read. Here’s the original Russian version; the google translator version and the Yahoo Babel Fish version. Babel fish fully translates the page (Google stops at half for some reason), so non Russian Speakers may want to choose that.
A few keypoints:
- Screen is brighter than the 5800
- Physical QWERTY Keyboard not as good as the E75 or E71 but when you get used to it the N97’s physical keyboard an outstanding means of text entry.
- There is no onscreen QWERTY keyboard.
- Keyboard does not have disgusting orange “I’m from the 80s” backlighting that earlier test models had. It’s a more neutral but pleasant white.
- Impressive battery life, 36 hours audio playback, 5 hours of video, but it is eaten up a bit by the active homescreen and thus generally has less stamina than the 5800.
- 80MB ram free after start up
- Speed lower than the 5800 at this point? For current operations speed is ok but unconverted videos will not play.
- Operating speed of the web browser is very good.
- Built in FM transmitter a pleasant feature -you can transmit signal to a compatible audio system
- Better sound quality than the Nokia 5800, 30% louder, clearer, and more natural.
- Camera module identical to N85, be sure to check out the image samples at the bottom of the review.
Lastly, something new I had not yet seen in other reviews:
The Stylus:
I’ve never seen this on the N97 before. It’s attached to a strap like the plectrum is on the 5800. Samsung has a similar solution with their styluses, although theirs looks more like a pen where as this looks like a pen-drive. I can see myself loosing this. It’s made of metal, so that’s a nice touch; even more is the fact that we probably won’t need it, and the reviewer agrees. I’d rather have a wrist strap myself.
