Video stabilisation and Hyperlapse for Windows 10

Back in January we requested that video stabilisation make it back as an option for windows phones, especially given how well iPhone has implemented it. OIS is great, especially in longer shot photos. In videos too OIS has made a huge difference over digital stabilisation seen in competing HTC and iPhone smartphones at the 920’s era. But perhaps smarter, more powerful computational imaging and even combination of digitally stabilising OIS makes for an even smoother outcome?

Either way, there’s been some reports that digital stabilisation will be coming to Windows 10. In a related note, something that showcases smart stabilisation features is Microsoft’s Hyperlapse.

They’ve been working on something just like the Instagram hyperlapse (before insta?)

In a typical hyperlapse, you create a moving time lapse.

The manual set up is a bit tricky but with hyperlapse apps, you just record a video, the app selects, cuts and repositions frames to make a smooth time lapse automatically.

This first clip really should be ignored if you’re looking at ‘quality’ because the subject is inappropriate.

This one shows off the final result a little better and is actually a live demo.

I recall at the time folks pointing out Microsoft’s version and saying that worked differently and in ways was more powerful. I think there was a different implementation at the time.

It would be good to see the source footage to show how much stabilisation is put by hyperlapse.
