Pixelpipe on the N8

August 24, 2010 Andre 12 comments

Stumbled across this video on dailymobile showing an upgraded pixelpipe application with the ability to upload not just pictures and videos to a variety of online services  such as picasa and facebook but also regular files such as PDF’s to dropbox accounts.

Give it a look!

P.S. No information on the size of the files that can be uploaded using pixel pipe.

Could one upload full HD videos to youtube this way?!

Nokia C7 leaked again

The Nokia C7 has been leaked again in an what looks like a genuine feature in a Hong Kong IT magazine called “Hi-Tech Weekly” issue 615:

Looks like the Nokia C7 is very close to launch since they are already making ads for it. As you can see it runs Symbian 3 it has a 3.3 inch multitouch display.

Key features:

  • Symbian 3 OS
  • 3.3 inch multitouch display
  • Resolution of 640 x 360
  • 3.5mm head jack
  • microUSB
  • 8 Megapixel autofocus camera with HD video recording
  • Wi-Fi and GPS will probably be included

According to Fonearena it already has been handled by people and they say the device is easy to use and quite fast which is nice to hear.

My opinion on this is if this is so close to release which it is considering that they are already making ads for, that means the N8 should be available in August now thats just my speculation.

My personal opinion on this phone is that there are a ton of features that would make most high end smartphones cringe and considering this is a mid range smartphone is should be solid device for the average consumer

What do you think are you looking forward to this phone, let us know in the comments

Thanks to Amanda for the heads up

More N8 camera samples? (Full 12mp 4000×3000)

Over in the mobile-review forums I stumbled across a post by a user named quagmire (giggity! :-P ) who posted a few links to photos on flickr that were shot with the Nokia N8 (supposedly).

Although I’ll remain a skeptic ( ’til I have the N8 in my own hands!!) , the pictures that were linked are from the same user who posted a number of other N8 sample pictures a few weeks back. Below is a small gallery of the pictures taken and a link to the flickr user’s page.

[Update by Jay. These are Nokia N8 photos as marked by flickr. We've previously covered apyykko's photos in another post a couple of weeks ago.

Anssi Vanjoki, “getting Nokia back to #1 in high end devices”

July 2, 2010 Andre 22 comments

Having just read a short excerpt written on Nokia’s official blog by the current head of Nokia’s Mobile Services division Anssi Vanjoki, I felt it necessary to share it with you guys.

http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/07/02/the-fightback-starts-now/

I think it speaks for itself where Nokia regard their position in the market and the situation they currently face. I’ll say this much though, I like him a LOT more than OPK. Brutally honest, open-minded and very much aware of the issues with their company, their products and their perception unlike other executives *cough* Steve Jobs *cough*.

Read on and sound off in the comments, would love to hear what you guys think.

Rant: The death of another Symbian blog and the loss of another one of Nokia’s Evangelists

July 1, 2010 Andre 43 comments
This started out a reply to a comment posted in one of my most recent articles which posted a link to Symbian-Guru’s Ricky Cadden and Dotsisx Rita el Khoury final rants and goodbye to the Symbian-Guru website and blog. A link to the post can be found below.
You should definitely give it a read.
I’m surprised but then I’m not. It’s been a frustrating time being a Nokia user, watching symbian’s UI dying a painful death over the years with little being done to repair it. (For the most part)
It’s been painful watching Nokia not release the brilliant hardware that we all knew they were capable of, especially if you were a N97 user.
As a Nokia user in the USA I can definitely sympathize with Ricky for the most part. It’s frustrating having to explain to people that no my nokia isn’t crap, and yes it does things you wish your phone could do. And wonder to myself why Nokia isn’t at least trying to market devices over here.
I definitely understand why Ricky made the step to end the blog after reading the rant and I hope for Nokia’s sake that Nokia World 2010 provides a reason for developers to jump on the platform, proper integration of the Ovi services with awesome hardware to make the public and the blogosphere drop their collective jaws and software that catches the eye and imagination while maintaining the great functionality of Nokia’s older operating systems.
This is truly a great loss. It’s been mentioned many a time, that Nokia has been losing the people that used to evangelize and were willing to evangelize and preach their platforms to the masses, the people that spoke to an audience that for the most part Nokia has ignored. The larger blogs like Symbian-guru and World Of Nokia are shutting up shop. How soon will it be before the users themselves grow jaded with the stagnation of the manufacturer and move on. How soon before interest in blogs like these are forced to close up or widen our audience so as not to drown in a quagmire of nothingness.
Good luck in all your future endeavours guys and appreciate what you’ve contributed to the Nokia community in your 3+ years of service.

Thanks kaiwangaila for the heads up.

Symbian 3 review

The ever so popular Eldar Murtizan published his frankly ridiculously long review of the Symbian 3 OS that will be powering the Nokia N8 which you can read here. You have to give it to him despite his frankly hatred for Nokia he has written a long review on Symbian 3 which I bet you won’t find anywhere else.

“Nokia – connecting people, photographing them and annoying them with a vast range of mindless ringtones”

September 16, 2007 Jay Montano 1 comment

Jeremy Clarkson, the refreshing loud mouth presenter of BBC’s hit “Top Gear”, is frustrated with the vast choice of high-tech mobile phones as not a single one simply does what he needs: be a phone. You know, one for talking?

Jeremby Clarkson on Top Gear

He does highlight one of my major gripes about convergence device: Battery Life!

What I want is a mobile phone with a battery that lasts for more than six seconds. This means no colour screen. A colour screen uses more electricity than the Pentagon

It’s understandable that not everyone will want or even need cameras/mp3 players/internet on their phone, but for the world where convenience and saving time is of the utmost importance, convergence is the way forward. As long as the manufacturers give us enough battery life to even make use of their “all-in-one” solutions, otherwise as Clarkson rightly puts it:

It will become a device of such mind-boggling complexity that you will be lost and its battery will be flat anyway

P.S. for simple calls/text only phones, try out the Nokia 2310.
