Nokia acquires Motally

Nokia today announced that they acquired Motally a San Francisco based analytics company. Motally offers in app application tracking and reporting to be able for developers to understand their customers better in a better way. Interestingly Nokia has said it plans to incorporate Motally into Qt, Meego, Symbian and Java and also kepp its exsisting customers base which includes the iPhone and Blackberry platforms.

It has been reported that Nokia plans to use it to beef up its Ovi store, which to be honest doesn’t make sense at all and won’t add any new information that Nokia doesn’t have right now. But then again Motally has patented technology which sounds nice and makes the deal slightly more interesting.

I still find it interesting that Nokia will keep letting Motally do business with rivals, to be honest that sounds too nice and other companies that I can think off from the top of my head would not do that……

Nokia X3 Touch and Type

Wooo, a bit of a shocker Nokia have released today, the X3-01 was leaked a while ago but no one expected it to be touch screen button tag team combo. It has caused a bit of a stir on the internets.

Key features

  • traditional 12 button keypad
  • 2.4 inch screen
  • 5 megapixel camera with 4 time digital zoom
  • dedicated messaging and music buttons
  • New ovi store
  • In selected markets it will be offered with Ovi Music limited
  • Battery life is rated at five hours talk time or 17 days on standby
  • MicroSD card slot
  • expected to be released this quarter (SWEET!!!) approximately €125
  • It will initially be offered in China, Ireland & UK, Russia, Australia & New Zealand, Singapore, Germany, Spain & Portugal, France, Mexico and Saudi & Yemen. Other markets will follow later.

Its a sweet phone and I can see myself buying this to compliment the Nokia N8 or the N9

Nokia Ovi browser is real !!! part 2

Seriously what is Eldar’s problem with Nokia or maybe Google translate needs some work on its Russian. Anyway Nokia have taken the wraps of it newest beta labs creation and all it is a browser is a new web browser for S40 phones thats its, no desktop browser (alright maybe later on).

Although I do think Nokia will rename all browsers in their phones Ovi makes sense to get the name out there and bring public awareness

you can see more here

thanks to tecfre for the heads up

Video showing off Social Networking on Nokia N8

Nokia has released a new Video showing off the Nokia N8′s Social networks integration which is starting to look nice

You can see the video below

The UI for the contacts app is looking really nice as well, it seems to me there are some UI improvements that Nokia haven’t showed off yet and didn’t show when the phone was demonstrated to the press. Then again with at least another month to go I expect some more UI changes even if they are minor

BTW have I ever said that Nokia make some of the best ads ever whenever I am bored I can sit for an hour on youtube just watching past Nokia ads LOL :-)

Eldar Murtazin’s Official Statement on Nokia Situation

Is he telling the truth?

Eldar Murtazin Nokia’s favorite person on this planet right now is as you might now in trouble with Nokia about the supposed Nokia N8 prototype, which according to Nokia is in Eldar’s possession of course he strongly denide the claim from Nokia and after getting plenty of attention form the Tech media and bad media for Nokia he has come out today with an official statement regarding the matter which you can read here

Some key points in his post

  • Nokia are feeding false information through their official blog and interviews
  • Received the N8 from a “Source” (which he won’t name which is fair enough)
  • The “source” is not a Nokia employee, doesn’t even work in the mobile phone industry
  • He had “access” to the device, never actually had the device in his possesion
  • At best was only allowed to play with the N8 a couple of hours at a time
  • “Sources” provided pictures and received no compensation for that
  • With the limited access he had he was able to draw some conclusions (really?!?!?!?!)
  • He can’t return the device because he hasn’t got it simples :-D
  • Apparently it is his duty as  Journalist to provide information that matters to the public (which I don’t have a problem with, but not on stuff which is half finished which is my problem)
  • He is not a Samsung consultant (I think he is to be honest considering the amount of love he shows towards BADA)
  • Nokia are apparently scared that Eldar would pass secret information to competitors
  • But he says it makes no sense as the N8 is shipped to developers and engineers around the world so why not go them (alright, good point)
  • He is a JOURNALIST
  • Belongs to some Journalist organisation that frankly I do not care about and shows of his ID to prove he is a Journalist
  • Nokia’s beef started with Eldar with the original 5800 way back when
  • Apparently Nokia didn’t replace faulty 5800 a la Apple and iPhone 4 after the earpieces where faulty Mobile-review (Eldar’s site) spent good money testing several units and Nokia still ignored them
  • Whole issue became even worse when Eldar got a prototype of the infamous Nokia N97 and their not so working widgets
  • Eldar was told that it was early software and was promised it would be fixed and he wrote an overly generous review of the N97
  • Calling the Russian Authorities on Eldar is ‘revenge’ on Nokia’s part

OOOOKKKAAAY seems like there’s a lot of background stuff between Nokia and Eldar and some things we will never know. It seems Nokia are trying to cover a lot of things here, now I am not trying to believe Eldar here but he makes some very interesting claims in his post and you know my respect for Eldar has grown a bit I have got to admit, most of the claims in his post seem legit to me and an N8 prototype could have surfaced from anywhere how about a factory in China?

One thing I don’t agree with Eldar is his review or early impression or whatever he wants to call it on the N8. I mean the N8 was very early prototype and a very early build of the software and the final software on the device will be nothing like his thoughts on Symbian 3 and the N8 when the retail version hits the shops.

So as a Journalist who serves the general public shouldn’t he telling the truth rather than making irrelevant comments on unfinished products ?

Anyway let us know in the comments on what you think, have you forgiving Eldar?

Eldar Murtazin interviewed by TechCrunch

The clueless people at Techcrunch Interviewed the famous russian “Samsung Research Consultant” Eldar Murtazin on the case involving him and the supposed stolen N8 prototype. Of course as America see the world as themselves or nothing they made some of the frankly most arrogant and clueless statements of Nokia during the interview.

Legal Action against Eldar Murtazin taken by Nokia

Ohh, today Nokia released a statement on their official blog explaining that Legal Action has been taken against Eldar for the possession of the pre production unit of the Nokia N8 he leaked 1 day before the official launch. Some inaccurate information was reported saying that Nokia wanted the popular Mobile-Review side to be closed down aswell which has been denied though. Also the statement on the blog explains Legal matters where not taken in recent criticisms from Eldar, instead according to Nokia Eldar has some some of Nokia’s intellectual property. Eldar is popular in leaking Nokia devices and then dissing them straight afterwards even though they are pre production units.

MeeGo 1.1 Day 1 (MeeGo Phone UX)

June 30, 2010 Andre 11 comments

Today, the MeeGo project announced and presented their Day 1 release, a developers’ preview of their upcoming OS and UI for mobile devices.

The Day 1 release is the first taste that the community at large has to view, interact and provide feedback on the newest Linux-based OS to hit the block. Given that this isn’t even remotely close to a finished product there are quite a few bugs associated with the release that will obviously be dealt with in due course. I’ll reiterate that this isn’t something for Average Joe’s that just so happen to own the N900. You’ve been warned!

Those interested can download ROM images for the new OS for their Atom powered  netbooks and/or handsets or for their N900′s at the following link.

http://meego.com/downloads

There are a view screenshots of the  OS available  right now from the MeeGo blog itself and it’s expected that videos from persons that have downloaded and used the OS will obviously come along as time goes by.

An image taster and link to the MeeGo blog are provided below.

Note that these pictures are of a concept device.
