New Windows Phone 8 smartphone exclusive to Verizon Wireless
Espoo, Finland – Today, Verizon Wireless and Nokia announced the upcoming availability of the Nokia Lumia 822 – a powerful Windows Phone 8 smartphone exclusive to Verizon Wireless. With a unique design, enhanced camera, world class maps with turn-by-turn navigation and free unlimited music streaming, the Nokia Lumia 822 provides Verizon Wireless customers with high-end smartphone features on America’s largest 4G LTE network.
“Bringing the Nokia Lumia 822 to Verizon Wireless allows us to expand our award winning Lumia brand to even more customers here in the United States,” said Olivier Puech, President of Nokia Americas. “With the Nokia Lumia 822, first-time smartphone buyers – and those ready to switch – will get high-quality performance on both their device and Verizon Wireless’ incredibly fast 4G LTE network.”
The Nokia Lumia 822 delivers high-end features in a compact package, including an 8MP camera with industry leading optics from Carl Zeiss, alongside a 1.2MP HD front-facing camera for crystal clear video calls. The Nokia Lumia 822 also features an exchangeable shell design, sold separately, which supports wireless charging.
The Nokia Lumia 822 also comes with Nokia Drive+, an industry leading, turn-by-turn voice navigation solution featuring offline access and pre-loaded US maps – replacing the need for a standalone personal navigation device. In addition, the Nokia Lumia 822 comes with Nokia City Lens, the latest addition to the Nokia location suite and the start of a new augmented reality experience that also enhances Nokia Maps. Along with enhancements to Nokia Transit, the Nokia location suite of services represents the most comprehensive, integrated mapping experience of any smartphone.
To take advantage of its camera capabilities, the Nokia Lumia 822 supports a suite of features to make the most out of photos and videos, available on the Windows Phone Store for download. Smart Shoot lets users remove moving objects and select the best faces for the perfect shot every time, and Cinemagraph allows users to easily turn photos into animated GIFs. Panorama makes it easy to capture an entire scene or landscape, while Creative Studio allows users to easily enhance their pictures with unique, creative effects before instantly sharing with friends and family.
The Nokia Lumia 822 also comes with Nokia Music – a completely ad-free music streaming application, requiring no registration, no log-in or subscription. Nokia Music allows consumers to enjoy the songs of their favorite artists without disruption, both online and offline so consumers can listen to their favorite playlists anytime, anywhere.

Why it comes with the old win logo?
Interesting, its shown as old in the video, yet the specs page has new. Rendered video is outdated

Probably an error in the render or old rendering, retail units will have the new logo I presume.
On a side note, in white the 822 actually looks good. It doesn’t look like a high end device, but it still looks pretty good. Nice balanced design and a little different from other devices.
Probably just an error

Morningstar today about Nokia:
Share price assumption at this moment: 2.40 euro (Nokia share is in Helsinki right now 2.06 euro, in New York 2.56 dollar)
Best scenario (if WP8 phones go well): the stock price will go to about 7.70 euro per share)
Worst scenario: no bankruptcy, because Nokia would be sold in parts before that.
Estimated price for this: intellectual properties over 1 euro per share;
other business parts (smartphones, featurephones, NSN) at least over 1.50 euro per share.
And NAVTEQ´s price not included (Nokia bought NAVTEQ with about 7 billion euro). All in all even in this case, Nokia share price would be at least over 2.5 euro. Pretty much like my thoughts and analysis.
Well, well, and there were rumours the 822 for Verizon was cancelled.
Some software problems/lacks if WinPho 8 and CDMA operator systems. Finally the devs team solve those… Expect it to come later than the 920 & 820…
I guess typo in the MNB write up of specs (I assume its 16GB internal)?
Nice introvideo, pretty good summary of the features.
GREAT to see Nokia FINALLY crack open the Verizon fortress. Can’t remember when (if at all) in my 12 years here Verizon has had a Nokia phone in their line up.
MMM… That’s weird… Here in Venezuela, when things were not so messy and Nokia was the King of the Hill, the two major operators where CDMA and there where lots of god CDMA Nokias the most succefull was the Nokia 6265 (A very good 2 MP shooter for the time)
great so we have the “cheap” nokia vs the flagship HTC at verizon…guess how will sell more devices…
The cheaper device?
Hopefully price is 49$ with contract. That should speed up the sales.
$100 according to engadget.
8X? Top end? Sorry excuse of one in that case… Come on, top end without gyroscope?
The lumia 822
The 822 has Gorilla Glass compared to the 820.
orly?
i guess it is.. its also 2.0
the phone resembles to samsung galaxy w.should have been cool if it was a bit slim

looks familiar
When looking through Apple supplied glasses I would concur, however there are more then enough details separating the two. The outline is similar, everything inside the outline is different, apart from the rectangular screen in the middle perhaps.
can’t defend if the basic design is the same -___-
it looks like a squarish version of the C7 to me.
You’ve got a typo there..its stated 26GB in the article instead of 16..!
