Taking a break from even more revision, just a little update.
Yesterday’s update made me aware of a fun little application called Shozu, after recommendations from both Vlad and Ryan (Thanks Guys!).
Man, did I feel like I’ve been out of a loop! Like, if the earth’s orbit was the loop, I was out of it!
I’ve heard friends mention the word Shozu in conversation but I never actually looked it up to see what it was.
For someone like me, who was planning on making frequent video blog updates via YouTube (for the Urbanista Diaries), Shozu seemed to be utterly perfect for the job. You all most definitely know what it does, here’s me preaching to the converted, but for the few who haven’t like myself: I’ve only just found out about it and I love it!
There’s an MMS version that I didn’t care for, and the application that can be installed onto your phone. (I’m concentrating on youtube videos for now) Once installed and signed in, when I took a video, the phone asks if you want to upload to YouTube. Click yes and a few minutes later ..it’s there.
Apart from the multiple fire alarms going off early in the morning, the searching for information/samples of Shozu in action kept me awake. There’s thousands of users using Shozu, even top most subscribed/celebrities like Ashley Tisdale and Funeral For a Friend . And rather embarrassingly, some have been there since December 06!
Shame aside, I’m really pleased to have finally come across this application a, fingers crossed, it will allow me to keep constant vlog updates during my part of the Urbanista Diaries. Applications like this make me seriously want to invest in getting unlimited data (which still as of this moment, data rates are a giant rip off in the UK).
This leaves my N800 simply now for just Blog updates (and photobucket upload. Is there one for PB? I couldn’t find it)
Here’s my first YT upload via Shozu…haha. It’s boring, and I uploaded it twice even though it said it had already been uploaded because I didn’t see a “uploading” bar that I assumed would come up)
Awesome communal bin action going on there.
Lastly, this morning I received a big package from WOM as delivered by the DHL man, who somehow managed to get into the building, into my flat and promptly standing outside my bedroom door.

In the box there were:
3 x Nokia N82 (European variety, no shutter sound - Yay!)
3 x BP-6MT batteries
2 x O2 simplicity SIM
1x Proporta charger
1 x Nokia SU-W8 Bluetooth Keyboard
1 x Pirate Earring
a.k.a. Nokia BH-701 headset. Haha (Yeah, I know it’s not meant to be worn like that. Actually, it looks a little more odd worn the right way)

Argh! Love the pirate earring, Jay. I’m pumped to follow your stuff. If you dig into the settings on ShoZu, you can also set it to just go ahead and upload videos, without you having to give it permission.

if you plan on doing video then the new hot cakes is qik. go to qik.com
check out my qik: qik.com/stefan
it literally is one button and you’re streaming to the internet, live! then when you’re done the video is archived to the tubes.

Yup, Qik is the new ‘thing’ right now. However, the resolution of the vids is only about 176x something. It’s really easy to use, however it streams as you take the video. Which might not go that nice considering the data tariffs you have mentioned. It all depends on the network you’re in, I guess. With ShoZu you get a little more flexibility, as in being able to upload to, say, YouTube, blip.tv, and many others, after you took the video, when you’re, say, in a Wi-Fi environment (which should cost less). As of now, ShoZu doesnt’t upload to Photobucket. But then you can upload directly to Photobucket via their new mobile site.
Looking forward to ‘following’ you…

[...] Unaware of the application until very recently, Jose_R.A.M. raves about the simplicity with which you can use it to upload video to Youtube with no more than the click of a button, and is particularly excited about the possibilities it will have when traveling. If you want to know a bit more, jump over and have a look. [...]

shozu will only upload 10 MB of video which works out to 20 seconds or so at full quality on the N95
not enough ShoZu
please double the limit to 20MB or better yet make it 50MB
I need to be able to do 30seconds!

Welcome to the loop
I’ve been using this app for the past couple of months to submit my photos to Flickr and Facebook, and for the occasional quick photoblog.
Just a quick tip that definitely isn’t made clear enough by the app or on the site: If you set up multiple access points, the app will try them in order from first to last. So for example if you prefer to use your (essentially free) work WiFi connection as a first choice, your (limited but still reasonable) home WiFi connection as a second choice and your (expensive) 3G contract as a last resort, add all three of those and Shozu will smartly use them as you’d expect
