Near-final N8 firmware run through

August 27, 2010 Andre 55 comments

With rumors circling the internet that the final, release version of the N8 firmware is scheduled to be finished by next week (crosses fingers) The latest video that I found on the site, http://tv.mediaprovider.se should hopefully give a pretty clear insight into the sort of performance and applications (read: games) we can expect to see when the N8 is FINALLY released. From the little available here, there should be few doubts in anyone’s mind as to whether this device will be sluggish, unperforming and underwhelming at release.

Give it a look and tell me what you think!

Youtube link to the 1st video! Thanks NeNoRmAl!

Update: Another video was taken on the 25th of August, just 2 days ago. The video demonstrates a few of the normal features available with the OS.

Give it a look.

Cool Nokia C6 unboxing

The Nokia C6 has been harshly treated in opinion for being called boring or N97 mini clone even though its getting some good reviews in from people that have used the device. You can read Sergejs Cuhrajs excellent review of the C6 here

Well on the 18th August there was this event called the #NokiaBox well known Nokia bloggers around the world where invited to take part in an event organised by the awesome people at WOMWorld/Nokia thay deffinitly know how to organise creative and fun events, some blogs started rumblings on what the event could be about, some said the N8 officially going for sale, some said the N9 launching (REALLY!!!) but in the end it wasn’t it was all about the C6.

Eldar Murtazin interviewed by TechCrunch

The clueless people at Techcrunch Interviewed the famous russian “Samsung Research Consultant” Eldar Murtazin on the case involving him and the supposed stolen N8 prototype. Of course as America see the world as themselves or nothing they made some of the frankly most arrogant and clueless statements of Nokia during the interview.

Nokia C3 is here!!!!

pic via Gizmodo

Now you might be thinking oh god another humungous line for the iPad right. WRONG!!!!!!! these people are actually queuing up for the Nokia C3 yeah thats right the C3 not this, the Citroen C3

picture via carpages.co.uk

But this little baby here:

It of course the new Nokia C3 is actually a cute little phone I considered buying one when Nokia announced it but decided against it and choose the Nokia E72 instead but considering the amount of buzz Nokia can still generate (as evident in Indonesia ).

Wouldn’t it be cool if they released actual phones closer to when they are announced? I mean the N8 is generating some good hype but its still 3 MONTHS AWAY !!!

AARRGGGHH the agony, anyway Nokia can still create buzz which is sort of important with even Gizmodo having a post about them (They have been much more Pro Nokia since their iPhone 4 incident. Whereas before they were pretty much the nonofficial Apple Blog-  Check out their newer posts(via Gawker) such as “How Apple Tricks You“)

Anyway to find out more about the C3 head to the Nokia Product page here : http://www.nokia.co.uk/find-products/all-phones/nokia-c3

In the UK, The C3 will be available from 18th June.

Event: Going to Barcelona for the weekend?!

March 18, 2010 Jay Montano 1 comment

I’m still not exactly sure what I’ll be doing, WOM’s Katie is keeping it all quite secret. :)

The itinerary is supposed to arrive in the morning so I’ll update when I get that.

But essentially I’m going off to Barcelona (home of, amongst many things, MWC!) Friday evening, with WOMWorld’s Lydia and Adam along with SymbianWorld’s Norman John, S60 Inside’s Roman Schweigler, (and another person from Coventry, I forgot who it was sorry >_<).

What are we doing? Again, I don’t exactly know. There was mention of something about behind the scenes shoot for an advert….how people use technology…something like that. I’m not sure if this has anything to do with the hands advert down in Middlesex last week with Nokia/WOM (That one, apparently my hands could have been in a video but I was otherwise engaged with Uni stuffs…)

Boarding passes are printed, passport ready, bag kinda packed.

I’ve just got a few meetings to go to tomorrow and work to submit then I’m heading over to Bristol Airport for a 5 something PM flight.

Nokia World 2010, coming to London! September 14th and 15th!

February 15, 2010 Jay Montano 10 comments

Last year, Nokia World 2009 was in Stuttgart, Germany. This year, Nokia World 2010 is coming to London baby!

Rafe’s just twitpic’d a slide that shows Nokia World 2010 (the biggest date in the Nokia Calendar, especially now for new devices) is coming to LONDON!

Dates are September 14th (Tuesday) and 15th (Wednesday) so get that booked in advance for time off if you’re planning on going!

Will we see the launch of the N98, N87/N8 and/or the N900′s successor, the first MeeGo phone? [There is still tomorrow, but there's meant to be no new device announcement]

What’s Nokia got cooking in Barcelona today (and tomorrow)?

February 15, 2010 Jay Montano 2 comments

Nokia aren’t attending MWC, but they are still in Barcelona hosting their own event.

  • Monday 15th Feb, 10:30 GMT, Nokia have a joint press conference with Intel
  • Tuesday 16th Feb, 11:15 GMT, Nokia have another press conference.

Apparently there aren’t going to be any new device announcements. Not that they would have had to make much effort given Samsung and Sony Ericsson’s offerings yesterday.

The N87/N8 and N98 have been on the rumour mill for quite a while, as with the Maemo 6 device. But these high end Android eaters probably won’t be officially announced until another separate event as Nokia in Barcelona is meant to be focusing on software and services. Hmmm….

From Nokia Conversations:

Let’s be honest, conferences are massive noisy venues where hoards of people push themselves from one place to another like herds of cattle. Not an ideal setting to converse with media, customers, investors, analysts and invited guests, don’t you think? So Nokia is trying something new this year, we’re spreading out!

Nokia is moving its home base to ONCE (headquarters to Spain’s National Association of the Blind), just 300 meters from the FIRA, a venue that can truly accommodate all our guests. In it you’ll find multiple levels containing lounges, demos, meeting rooms, catering, and an auditorium. Be sure to check out the behind-the-scenes video coming later today for a sneak peek.

In addition to our off campus location, you’ll find NAVTEQ’s booth in Hall 1 (#1D59). Qt has their own booth in Hall 1 as well (#1E44). Nokia Siemens Networks will have a hospitality booth in Hall 8 (#8C01 + 8C03) plus a press/analyst briefing at ONCE. Nokia will be sponsoring the WIPJam developer event at the App Planet sideshow in Hall 7. And Nokia will have a total of eight speakers participating in MWC panels.
