Video: Smooth YouTube viewing directly from YouTube.com on the Nokia N900

Just a short video under 1 minute to look around YouTube.com on the Nokia N900 and the smooth video playback with its flash 9.4.
No app necessary, no client, no mobile version. This is YouTube raw…on the N900 and as you can see from the video, ever so slightly cutesified!
One of the main reasons I prefer the direct YouTube.com from a browser as opposed to a client/mobile version/app is that you don’t get a small selection of videos – you get all YouTube’s videos, plus all the functionality of search and interaction.
- I can do almost everything on YouTube using the N900…:
- Pause/resume play video by pressing the video
- Switch between standard and fullscreen easily [S60V5 reloaded a new page and restarted loading video – in general S60V5]
- If you’re signed in, you can comment, rate, favourite etc.
- Yes, pretty much everything, except that is, have either of the two cameras recognized as a webcam for possible live uploading direct (happens with all flash sites)
- Clips (over decent connection – preferably WiFi) run absolutely smoothly, without having to wait for the video to load completely.
- Longer videos might stutter in first couple of seconds but then absolutely fine (if you’re watching without waiting to load)
- Frame rate is very good, more than acceptable – though I’d welcome a couple more fps.
- No HQ or HD option but most of YouTube’s newer videos are in much better quality anyway – much better than mobile version or via YouTube app. You do get HD/HQ if you use FireFox on the N900.
- Embedded videos on websites play properly! Not just youtube.com but youtube videos embedded in blogs/sites etc.
