What would it take to bring you back to Symbian?
Perhaps you’re still a Nokia user who’s moved over to the greener Maemo 5 pastures, or strayed completely into the dens of other smartphone OS [iPhone/Android/WebOS/Windows?!/Blackberry?!?!]. Whatever the case, if you’re no longer using Symbian or know that your current Symbian handset is the last one you ever want to use:
What would it take to bring you back to Symbian?
- Are there any physical features that would totally sway you back to Symbian?
- What OS/UI/UX facets is Symbian missing?
- What have you seen in other smartphones that you’d like to see in Symbian?
- Can Symbian^4 deliver/meet expectations of high end mobile OS?
Or perhaps you’re a very content Symbian user already and look forward to future models?

Nokia’s supposedly bringing out a 12MP beast with Xenon this year, but it might be Symbian flavoured (though it might be the newer Symbian^3). If xenon and Symbian touch is what I’m after, there’s already Satio from S.E.
- For me, to go back and buy a new Symbian handset as opposed to going elsewhere (Maemo 6 in my case) I’d have to have:
- the feature packed Mozilla Based MicroB browser. Or similar/better functionality. I can stomach other things on Symbian that Maemo does a little better but not browsing. I’ve been too spoilt now in properly having the best pocketable web experience (maybe implement multitouch whilst we’re at it)
- Stable, intensive multitasking.
- Maybe native .DivX, .avi, .XviD playback? [though apps like SmartMovie may solve this]
- ….or even the highly customizable homescreens. [multiple, and higher degree of customizability!]
- many other things from Maemo but I’ll stop here.
- Maybe native .DivX, .avi, .XviD playback? [though apps like SmartMovie may solve this]

To be honest here, having Maemo now in the competition makes it hard for Symbian, however my E71 still rocks! so therefore, I’ll agree having a more full web experience will do great, now, on Symbian, I’m a fan of the UI, I mostly say, hardaware needs to be better, please no more 128MB RAM devices, take it up at least to 256 or who knows 512, but we’re still not there, thrid party apps are awesome in Symbian devices, however I would love to see including them already full licensed in the phone, example, QuickOffice is full free with E-Series Devices, they should work on having others like this, 1st of all: RoadSync, it can’t be a smartphone without this, no for multimedia, I would replace the default apps with LCG software, smart movie, Jukebox and even X-Plorer, oh, and I would include Gravity here, this apps will overtake any other platform in a second! and they are not built in, so other phones/platforms have better built in apps.
I like buying 3rd. party apps, but I need to say, they need to have the best basic ones installed in the phone, to be able to compete well with others!

When a Symbian (or Maemo) based device offers me these kind of experiences then I’ll think about returning. Until then I see know reason to switch back full time.

symbian s60 has potential, however it dosen’t show it, user interface is really old, poor and not Friendly!! even apps can’t get any better because of the minimum hardware grade, but there is hope S^4
