A couple of videos by tinhtevideo, the latest in Vietnamese and the second in English.

An interesting comment in the description box (google translated):

Users normally do not feel the change because of what they see N8 and manipulation is almost similar to the other induction machine Symbian. The changes that users will find here is: very good performance, nice screen, touch sensitivity, a new design. That means you will find it very familiar but would have felt too. As you think Nokia has a very large customers are using the Symbian operating system and for Symbian N8 ^ 3 is totally reasonable. If someone still wants Nokia Symbian bored with it a very inviting once again invite you to use the N900 with Maemo operating system.

  • Check out that bigger calendar (04:00).

N8 Hands on – WiFi positioning

In a video demo they uploaded last week you’ll see a demo of WLAN positioning for the Nokia N8 which is how it is now able to get instant GPS lock.

A-GPS improves GPS start up connection by acquiring positional information from your network (requires SIM/data connection). Triangulation from cell towers may be accurate between 200-1000m, then your GPS kicks in for that finer lock.

3:00 WiFi/WLAN GPS determines positioning from known WiFi access points, and really assists where A-GPS is weak (indoors, built up cities/urban areas). WIFI positioning with SkyHook was all the original iPhone had (No actual GPS). There are apps for Symbian that will allow Ovi Maps to use WiFi positioning (can’t recall the name right now. It’s called Maps Booster)

Combine all three positing solutions and you’ve got yourself a pretty good location sensor.

SkyHook Coverage.

  • Smooth pinch and zoom of 9 and 12 megapixel images
  • Social networking demo (actually works and signed in, not like that fail demo last week -_-) Works ok, still a bit slow (they say it’s due to slow WiFi – which btw can occur in demos, e.g. iPhone 4)
  • Bounce evolution – the demo guy says something about having more of those games in future and something about integrating them (audio not clear).
