Nokia BH-905 and Nokia BH-905i (SOUNDS OF PARADISE :P )

Very rough one hand unboxing video (minus the boxes)

I got home from a PBL course meal to a notification of a package? What was it? The Nokia BH-905i! The new updated model of the noise cancelling Bluetooth (with wired option) BH-905.

The package is similar to the original except that when you go inside..

…you get a nifty little pouch! This is a brilliant addition as now you won’t (oro at least less likely to) lose all the included accessories – they all fit in one place. The leather zip “purse” (heh) for such a tiny thing has two zipper compartments – great for storing those jack adapters. The zipper portion is a flap which also acts as a divider – so you could keep the leads separate from the charger.

As with the N905 you get :

  • a lead that turns your bluetooth headset into wired ones (pretty awesome feature, means you can use your BH-905i or 905 to any audio device. Bluetooth not essential. Great when the battery runs out or if your audio device does not have bluetooth. e.g. work/uni PC, airplanes, MP3 players (in general)
  • extension lead
  • Charger (pretty fine slim UK one going on there)
  • And a host of jack adapters to plug into pretty much any device.

The "twisty part" of the BH-905i is at more of an angle than the original

Onto the headset itself – the BH-905i has a more conventional design for the headband portion (as you’ll see in a bit). Otherwise everything else is pretty much similar/identical to the BH-905

Now a side by side. BH-905 and BH-905i. As you’ll see later on Georgio (who’s wearing the headsets for demo) you don’t have that odd SHREK HORN look with the BH-905i that you do with the original BH-905 as the headband portion is more conventional U shape.

For me, due to the mass of hair you can hardly see the difference. But with Georgio you can see the more streamlined nature of the BH-905i

The lack of bulge and added VOIP support are huge improvement. I feel a bit robbed now after shelling out €250 for the original pair but then again, Nokia’s support has been great for it. They fixed it under warranty after I broke the headband by stepping on it. The audio quality is also the absolute best I’ve ever had on any headset.

Hey Micky – yup! You’re right, and I specifically said the controls go on right to but some how we took the photo with it the wrong way around. Guess that’s what happens when you’re in a rush :D hehe

Have you got a pair yourself? If so, how you finding them compared to original?

DO you know if wired mode works with an HTC device ?

  9. Womble says:

Just ordered a white pair (only ones in stock on mobilefun) for £179
Should have them by the end of the week.

  10. Neostar says:

Got them now, was actually the black ones that turned up and not the white ones as seen on their site.

The headphones are hands down the best. Ive retired my senheisser cx 680′s and these sound just as good as a wired headset.

It works flawlessly with my n900. Comfortable and no bull horns from a distance. Excellent piece of kit and well worth the £179. these are a premium but worth the investment for truly mobile listneing.

  12. bluetooth headsets are very nice and very comfortable because you don’t have those pesky wires`*.

I have one question regarding wired mode on these:
    - when using the wire(s) do you get two 3.5 mm plugs (one for headphones and another one for the microphone) or just one?
When at home/office I would probably use them wired all the time and would like to use the features for VOIP calls.

so different headband is the “only” difference?
    why such a minimal revision?

I am on my third set of the 905. The first two sets had faulty mikes for phone conversation, thus the person at the other end of the phone kept saying that I was very muffled and they could not hear me very well.
In all defence for Nokia though, they have replaced the whole unit twice now. I wait with anticipation to see how this third set work.
ON both units so far received the sound quality of music and received calls is good as is the noise cancelling feature.

  18. logicprobe says:

I purchased a Nokia BH-905 headset in December 2010. The sound quality was great, but there was something loose in the right earpiece, and I could hear it rolling around. I called Nokia customer service and they advised me to send the headset to their repair facility in Huntsville, Alabama. I received a “refurbished” headset about 10 days later.

The replacement headset had a different problem. The sound was great on Bluetooth wireless, but the wired connection sounded like it was only one channel coming from the bottom of a barrel. I called Nokia customer service, and they advised me to return the headset to the Huntsville repair center again, to the attention of the quality manager, which I did.

Four weeks passed with no response, so I sent a letter. Two more weeks passed with no response. It’s now been more than three months since I purchased the BH-905, and I still have no headset. I called the Nokia customer service center yet again. After three phone calls and an escalation, all they would do is offer me a refund on my original purchase price, and they had the gall to tell me that the refund might be prorated. They explicitly refused to reimburse me for the expense of sending faulty Nokia products to their repair center twice, never mind the inconvenience and time wasted.

My conclusion is that Nokia does not stand behind their products, and they do not care if they have dissatisfied customers.

    • David Knox says:

Ooh-ah! I’ve been looking into buying these headphones, but you’ve given me serious pause for thought – customer service is not a negotiable factor for me. Thanks for your heads up.
