Video: MeeGo handset UI on a tablet – looks great!

Here’s a cool video, it’s MeeGo Handset UI on a tablet.

Although MeeGo handset is no where near ready (both Vanilla and Nokia’s secret version that’s supposedly going to be amazing and have a different UI “Pattern”) it translates great on a bigger touch screen, despite the comments that a Phone and Tablet should have separate UI.

I guess the Maemo now MeeGo experience has always been tablet focused first (being developed on the “internet tablets).

I’d love 10″ tablet with MeeGo handset UI vanilla or Nokia’s (well based on the leaked Nokia UI, though I have no idea if the supposed Amazing one will look anything like that). There’s no sign at the moment of any tablet sporting the pre-alpha tablet UI which impressed us all back in June this year.

Not noticed on N900 before but look at the “load ring” around icons when starting for X-term. Good distraction though something more obvious would be more helpful to take attention away from loading (hopefully final product will be faster as to not have lags)

The Browser looks great, as does the on-screen keyboard. Oh I miss you, Fennec. S60 Browser makes me want to poke nails into my eyes.

I don’t remember the conversations precisely but the gist was that MeeGo handset UI dropped to have entirely new Qt UI (Or something like that). I could me confabulating this, been feeling all ill this weekend. :S

I like the multitasking implementation, that the fact that it actually has a real multitasking. But other than that, I don’t like how the keyboard looks and it generally has an unfinished feel and look to it.

They’ve been working on this MeeGo how for long now? And it’s constantly delayed.

    • Average Joe says:

How long? For less than 10 months: perhaps we, in our impatience, forget that Meego was announced only in February 2010. To be fair, you have to look at how long it takes to develop a mobile OS with a chance to compete – for example, compare how much time passed for Android from announcement to release.

The presence of a mouse cursor (the same as in Ubuntu) looks weird to me…

  3. Johnny Tremaine says:

It looks okay, but I’m not seeing the awesome that you are, apparently. What could a Meego tablet do that, say, a Samsung Tab can’t?

I know two things you CAN’T do on Meego: read your Kindle books or stream Netflix.

    • Andre says:

Yes of course Johnny, we can’t do those things because the apps haven’t been written and published yet. Makes no sense releasing apps for unreleased hardware and software Lol.

It’s awesome because what we’re seeing is basically alpha software, has and will continue to be that way.
