Wow! Nokia N8 Rockchip Dual Core ARM 9 with Android 2.1 and 800X480 display. More than your ordinary China clone!

| December 12, 2010 | Reply

Last month we saw a Nokia N8 Clone sporting an Android Clone UI. Not really Android, just a skin that made it appear to look like Android.

Well, back in August a picture of a Nokia N8 Clone was found, complete with Android 2.1 and Android buttons.

More details surface from Yesky that says this is a dual core ARM 9?!

  • Alloy Case
  • 3.5″ Resistive (bright and clear)
  • 800×480
  • Android 2.1 with back, menu, home page, search buttons
  • 115 × 60 × 14mm (real N8 113.5 x 59 x 12.9 mm)
  • Rockchip ARM 9 (Not A9!) Dual Core 600MHz + DSP 500MHz (Real Nokia N8 ARM 11, 680MHz with Broadcom GPU)
  • Smooth 720p playback apparently
  • 128MB RAM << erm what?
  • 256MB ROM
  • 5.0 MP Camera Dual LED
  • Headphone Jack
  • MicroSD up to 32GB
  • WiFi
  • A-GPS
  • Gravity-sensor
  • Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR with A2DP stereo headset profiles
  • 1400mAh battery, good for 2 days use supposedly (not sure if it’s replaceable)

Well, that’s not your typical knock off bargain basement dual-SIM fanfare that we’re used to. Not sure what the price is.

Here’s stock Android 2.1 (Eclair). Might even get the new Gingerbread update before X10, who knows.

Apart from the 5MP at the back it’s a very faithful rendition of the Nokia N8 design, complete with screws. Possibly sealed battery too?

There’s a little stub on the top of this clone N8

The camera of course is no where near original N8 and not even a patch on Nokia’s older 5MP or even 2mp cameras in good lighting.

    Quite interesting

This will still be the biggest pile of sh*t ever. Android = fail, Chinese clone = fail, everything = fail. Do I need to go on?

But the issue with Nokia is they gave to come out big with a special branded phone with a sweet os and do serious marketing for it on the us and other part of the world and it wld pick up by it self, but time is of the essence they are delaying and delay give the consumer different tastes and this new taste might cause them to forget abt they old taste and getting back might take something very very much for them to come back

    • Dave

Nothing wrong with Android, and saying Android=fail is pretty much a fail in itself.

Android is fine, its easy enough to use, generally works well.

Problem is that Android doesn’t work particularly well on a 600mHz processor.

Offtopic: What is Nokia up to? C6-01 has been released for a month but its still not available in india/pakistan. Its a mid-range phone so it should sell better in emerging markets. moreover india and pakistan are a big market for them. come on release it already. and i cant find its official price. Can anyone tell me its price in Euros ?

    • http://mynokiablog.com Jay Montano

      est 260EUR.

That’s a pretty dope clone I don’t think you could really call it a clone (if they didn’t market it as a n8) ^^ just cell makers going budget and buying cases already available

OffTopic been playing with my N8 and i noticed there’s a Light Sensor that adjusts the brightness of the N8s screen automatically!

I don’t remember hearing about it so it was a pleasant surprise for me ^^

hw dual core arm9 much better than a single arm11……

    • Dave

      No, it isn’t.

Its only a single core *cpu*, with a secondary DSP …. which will likely have little in the way of software optimisation/support.

I think this is what OPK called “peeing in your pants” about Android. In the beginning, big players such as Samsung, HTC and Motorola got an OS for a low cost (I don’t know how much money they invested in Android, but surely it’s less than what would have costed for each one of them to develop an equivalent OS in-house). But then any unknown eastern manufacturer can make phones with the same features as theirs (or better) but at a fraction of the price, so the market shrinks for bigger players. Which can only compete on quality, thus there is still place for them, but much smaller than before. Who wins is Google, which anyway gains money from the software running on the phones.
Compare this with what IBM did with the PC: they invented it, then the clones came in, and today IBM doesn’t sell PCs anymore (they sold their business to the Chinese). Who won is Microsoft, providing the software that runs on the PCs.

The same is true for Meego, because it’s an open OS, but at least with Meego Nokia doesn’t depend on an external entity (Google) controlling the software (and the software market) running on the phone.
