Nokia N8 Software Update Available! Apps Update 1.0
We received an email from Georgios to tips@mynokiablog.com informing us that an “Apps Update 1.0″ was available at the Software Update section on the N8. I didn’t see anything when I checked and thought it was yet another “software update rumour”, despite Georgios informing us moments later that,
“It adds some transition effects when switching between screens, the camera application fires faster…”
Sorry Georgios! I just checked again now after being tweeted by @vipin124 and lo and behold, it’s there.
So go to “Software Update” scan for updates and download. Can anyone else confirm what changes you’ve noticed?
What I’ve checked so far:
- Folders opening a touch faster? Restarted three times, normally there is an initial lag the first time you open them up but that doesn’t seem to be there
- Some users have reported faster camera – not noticed this myself
- The lock switch now turns the screen on/off immediately. I distinctly remember a slight delay, and that is still present on my mate’s N8 (without update) though that might be due to different product numbers/build date.
Check out my 1 bar signal with T-Mobile. Bah, totally sucky T-Mob in central Manchester – and you make it worse with your new 500mb “unlimited” data limit.
This isn’t the firmware update we’re waiting for btw.

Set the date to 17-01-2011, hope I don’t screw up my calander and mail, lol.

Camera starts faster, folders are open faster, transition is impressive compared to old times. Eagerly waiting for PR 1.1 though, was waiting whole these days expecting the firmware update and highly disappointed to see, nothing, absolutely nothing OTA!
i think they did alittle work on the sound quality
i listen to a lot fo dubstep and it’s known for heavy bass
and after the update using the stock headset with the N8 the songs with bass booster sound a little more full

I remember you got your N8 lately. If so, you should have it updated in your phone already…

Its available in the UK on my Orange branded N8, agreed that the camera is faster – startup probably half the previous time. Folder transitions are nicer, but still a slight delay when opening up a few specific folders though.

I like my N8 (more than my android phone (samsung galaxy i-7500. the first samsung android phone)

Just updated yesterday here in the Philippines. Nothing much improvement, although the touch screen responds quicker than usual in PDF window. Scrolling down the e-mail message listing is faster. Nice job! Love my new N8 all the more!
I found that when i quick zoom captured photo to biggest.. the screen went dark and the zoomed pic wont show up..
My N8 (Germany, T-Mobile) doesn’t show the Update.

Can you assure me the double tap to full zoom in camera/video mode worked in the past, ’cause I noticed only today.. After installing the update the music player restarted so I think they updated this app either..
Yeah i did the update and my double tap to full zoom is working perfect.

Got a problem: Phone rebooted while installing the apps update and installation failed…
The same for me. It rebooted, I thought it might be installed… but nothing in the update history. When searching for new updates, it says, it is up to date.
Turns out (after doing a quick search) that the SW updater checks every 24 hours…. so if you change the date to >24 hours. It should get it searching again. Unfortunately if u cancel the update (like i did) – this method doesnt work – and i have no idea how to fix it :S

Found out that the installation was actually successful even though i cancelled it…heres how…
For all those that have cancelled the installation like i did… please check ur search application. (menu->applications->search) and then click options and about. If the version is 5.00.1032 then the update was successful.
I’ve got Search Version 5.00.1032 too. And there is split screen qwerty!
I dont think PR1.1 will come out before QT 4.7.2. QT posts discusses about QT 4.7.2 as part of next symbian firmware release. As there is no official QT 4.7.2 release,may be the delay is for QT integration.
I would rewrite your comment replacing PR1.1 with PR 2.0, then it’s valid.
Anyway, so; The real question is..
When the new FW PR 1.1 or PR 2. will be released ??
