Nokia N8 Software update available: Nokia DAB Radio (UK) update: subtitle support for videos!

There’s another little software update for the Nokia N8 this time for an optional “Nokia DAB radio”. Cheers Sam for the heads up.

What is DAB radio? From sdsdigital: Digital Audio Broadcast will eventually replace the existing analogue radio service. Digital Radio brings more choice, improved sound quality, no re-tuning and extra information on broadcasts such as track names and sports results.

It’s basically digital radio, like digital TV. Higher quality, more stations, and either all or nothing quality (you either get the station or you don’t – no intermediate hissing). Your country/region needs to support DAB transmission.

You’ll get a new icon in applications folder called DAB. I can’t try it out yet because it does need an accessory called “Nokia Digital Radio Headset DAB”.

Nice to have this as a possibility though. Isn’t it neat that you get a link to buy the headset? :p

Now, this “DAB Radio” app has been available apparently at the Ovi Store, but the headset has only just gone on sale. Isn’t it neat that you get a link to buy the headset? :p.

This is what it looks like. I might have to pick up a pair. DAB headphones, media buttons, can act as headset, has 3.5mm jack for your own set too. This connects via USB on the go.

UPDATE: Constantinos Orphanides (@trashr0x) emailed us (to tips@mynokiablog.com) a couple of screenshots from his N8 which has an additional “Videos” update that includes subtitle support.

Easily add subtitles to your mobile videos and get a range of additional updates to many other features with this new, easy-to-install update. Currently supported file formats are SRT and SUB.”

Georgios also got the update:
