Software Update PR1.2 available soon for N8-00/C7-00/C6-01: (PR1.1 for E7-00)
Apparently from Nokia staff at Nokia Discussions (via Akram), PR1.2 is coming just before PR2.0 (but following on from PR1.1). It’s a minor update. This is called PR1.1 for E7 as its PR1.0 is equivalent to PR1.1 of the other S^3 handsets. As Kieth correctly points out, I think E7 has already picked up PR1.1 March 15th, no?
PR2.0 in first half of 2011. I thought Nokia said early 2011? Half way isn’t early? When the freak is PR3.0 coming? Are they bundling PR2.0 with PR3.0 or wait for 50+ updates in Summer then the new UI in June 2020.
Thanks Akram and Keith (DailyMobile) for heads up.
We have released a voluntary software update for Nokia Symbian^3 smartphones primarily to address a synchronization issue identified in a limited number of Nokia smartphones using Mail for Exchange on Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Service Pack 1.
We listen to people’s feedback and continue to constantly improve the user experience of our smartphones with software updates. While we are working to make available the next software version, which will provide a renewed user experience, including new browser, refreshed widgets and home screen as well as many other performance enhancements, we released this software to quickly resolve a potential issue affecting our business users.
The software update will be available through the on-the-device Software Update or using Ovi Suite. The roll-out schedule will be determined operator by operator, market by market.
Q: What is new with this software update? What are the benefits?
A: The primary reason for releasing this update is to address a Mail for Exchange synchronization issue. It will also include a new version of Ovi Store as well as a new version of Ovi Maps (SR6), adding visibility to subways, trams and trains, real-time traffic, safety alerts, visibility to parking and petrol stations, speed limit warnings, and improved search and location sharing capabilities.
Q: How can I update the software on my Symbian device?A: Go to Applications > Software update or Applications-> Tools –> Software update (depending on which model you have) on your device and download the update there over the air. You can use WiFi to avoid any additional data costs. It’s also possible to update software via Ovi Suite. (As for all electronic devices we recommend to do regular backups in case you need to restore your data.)
Q: Will the software update be pushed to users?
A: No, this is a voluntary software update. Users who have signed up with MyNokia or enabled the software update auto-check will get a notification about the update on their homescreen and will be able to download the new software from the Software updater in their device, if and when the update is available for them.
Q: Why does the Symbian device variant in country X not have the SW update yet? What is your roll-out schedule?
A: We first publish standard non-customised versions of the software. Country (SIM-free) and operator versions will be following soon. You can check if an update is available for you from Nokia Care.
pS: As this is an optional release we have some countries & operators that are not taking this version!
Q: I’m on a SIM-locked device with operator X, they are not offering the update. My MfE is not synching. What can I do?
A: We will offer this update content also as part of the PR2 software.
Q: How can I check if I have the latest SW?
A: Go to Applications > Software update (N8, E7) / Applications > Tools > Software update (C6-01, C7), on your device and see if there are any updates available.
Q: Is the rollout of PR2 affected by this?
A: We’ve announced we will introduce significant improvements for the Symbian UI during the first half of 2011. That schedule remains unchanged.
Q: You have promised a new SW with browser and portrait QWERTY. Why are those not available in this release?
A: We hope that consumers will be very excited as we continue to enhance our smartphone experience in 2011. We are not stopping here but there are further improvements on the way. We anticipate the software to be available in the summer.

Opera mobile 11 and opera mini 6 is out.
At least the need for new browser is reduced, now that opera mobile 11 has the very nice pinch to zoom function. I can now make this my default brower.
At last!
I think you might just be right with Nokia’s plan to release the new UI in June 2020 Jay. They’re just taking forever, turn-around time is too slow.
That aside, they talk about Mail for Exchange, and forget the sucky Nokia Messaging (Push Emails)! It’s fast, admittedly, but it just doesn’t have the brains at times. I’ve not known any email client in the world that still shows deleted emails as unread emails, except Nokia Messaging on S^3.
“PR2.0 in first half of 2011. I thought Nokia said early 2011″ The two claims can be at the same time.
just got PR1.2 and If this is the 50+ updates that was to be released the Q1 2011 then Nokia have finally make me switch brand,I have been using Nokia phones for over 10 years and if no PR2.0 is out befoore this month end I will buy a phone that works as expected from the beginning..No moore Nokia phones that you have to wait forever to update to use it as planned…get your acts together or I´m sure someone will buy your company and only use the hardvare..
Not really, 50 + update is update PR2.0.
There is no error-free smartphone, it’s utopia.
Just installed the new v14.002 on my n8 but no any visible changes at all
“A: We hope that consumers will be very excited as we continue to enhance our smartphone experience in 2011. We are not stopping here but there are further improvements on the way. We anticipate the software to be available in the summer.”
Does anyone else think that this response is idiotic?
Everything points that Nokia is stopping all the time and they’ve been HERE for 6 Months, F#@k that way this updates are coming through stop wasting our time with useless half assed updates, our frustration won’t go with out a cost and i swear to God this is my last nokia ever and i hope you and microsoft be run into the grounds together…
Tried the software updater on my N8 and found nothing, but when I did the *#0000# >>> options >> check for updates I got the update. Just installed it.
PR 1.2 available. is it worth downloading?? any notable changes on maps and ovi store?
I got PR1.2 now. It came quickly.
Did the update. No visible changes. Wiped out all my contacts though. So backup recommended.
yeah i was smart enough to back up before i updated.lol.
Cool. It installed over my flashed debranded n8 firmware.
this is crap! where is the nokia i know..lol. im really thinking of venturing into android land on my next phone. the only thing that made me buy the n8 is the camera. and nokia really deliver on that section. the camera interface may be horrendous i agree. but its an awesome camera. they should consider bringing back the n95 kinda interface. that was really cool bak then. it might just work on the n8 too
everything works fine and finally they got QWERTY keyboard
