Video Collection: Nokia Astound Hands on.

Below are a collection of hands on videos of the “new” Nokia Astound launched at CTIA. It’s the American Nokia C7 preloaded with PR2.0.

  • Check out the split screen portrait QWERTY and the landscape SWYPE (not split screen). This, oh dear, does not make sense to me. Swipe is one finger dragging – preferably over a short distance as in a portrait QWERTY. I much prefer the normal landscape QWERTY for typing two handed than swype. UPDATE from phonescoop (via wes) Portrait swype supposedly coming at launch. :S How can it take this long? :S:S:S:S
  • One of the demoes says it has gorilla glass.
  • T-Mobile branding
  • “New” browser
  • Instant draggable homescreen. This looks so much snappier. Why on earth they stuck with the “intentional delay” effect that supposedly prevented “mispress”. Who on earth at Nokia tests these things? It’s like they live under a rock in terms of user expectations of touch screens.
  • Small, thin, comfortable, durable
  • 8MP – largest from T-Mob apparently
  • Those more transparent widgets (seen in previews) make a lot of difference

If/When Nokia gets their new Symbian UI, I hope they market it effectively. Symbian and Nokia – though they intrinsically have certain technical (UI) issues, have been further hindered by lack of awareness push from the marketing teams.
