Phone Arena have done some video comparisons between the Imaging King Nokia N8 and contenders iPhone 4, Galaxy S II and Optimus 2X

http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-vs-LG-Optimus-2X-vs-Nokia-N8-vs-Apple-iPhone-4-Camera-comparison_id2744

They’ve done some Photo and Video Samples aspiring to the greats that are GSM Arena (though not really quite there yet, but good to see people following in GSM Arena’s footsteps). Now the N8 from last year versus these new contenders, it still outperforms them all in detail, colour reproduction, exposure and dynamic range as well as indoor shots and night shots. Due to that rather wide angle, N8 loses out somewhat in Macro.

The N8 offers the best imaging solution right now for mobile. It is the most versatile any situation cameraphone right now. Fantastic pictures, great video, feels like a camera with 2 point shutter and zoom buttons, xenon flash, 12mp  carl zeiss 28mm wide angle, biggest sensor on any mobile phone and many point and shoots and megazooms, 720p stereo recording, usable minimal deterioration digital zoom, stellar stereo audio recording, supreme file compression and advanced video/image stills settings.

Phone Arena Adds:

if you are somewhat of a shutterbug, and your foremost demand is realism and well-lit indoor shots – the large sensor, 12MP resolution, and Xenon flash on the Nokia N8 undoubtedly have your best interest at heart. Although the N8 produces natural colours, great detail and contrast, because of the 25 FPS, the N8 is marked down.

(We do know the phone is capable of 30FPS with continuous autofocus)

The modes and different settings in the N8 set this beyond most users. It needs an improved interface (SEE THIS POST) to make these more easily accessible not just for joe average point and shoot but for someone with a little more interest in the images they take on their mobile. Now picture and video quality isn’t all that’s important in smartphones, but for some people it is. If that’s your main criteria (it was for a few of my friends who have since bought one) then the N8 is still for you. Since this post is about imaging, focusing emphasis on these qualities alone is totally valid.

We’d hope that should the N8’s wondrous skills be bestowed on a successor for 2011, they market the shit out of it please? This is an area of advantage for  you, so scream to the world about it! We can go on a separate post about this but in brief, you can make people want it. Look at all this silliness with Apps now. I can’t wait to see N8’s camera abilities possibly on Windows Phone, MeeGo or new Symbian.

Videos:

Listen out for the N8’s video audio. It’s totally something else. The Optimus 2X is a JOKE.
