Video and Gallery: Nokia N950 hands on (and side by side with Nokia N9)
Here’s a very nice, clear hands on with the developer MeeGo handset, the Nokia N950, sporting the same UI as the N9 from the folks at mobilenet.cz/
Note that in landscape the icons are still in portrait mode.
This tilt hinge is the evolution from N97, N97 mini and Nokia E7.
No branding on the camera but it is Carl Zeiss, possibly 12MP AF as seen in the teaser.
The pics above are from the video but they’ve also got some photos of the device itself, and with the Nokia N9
I love the colourful new Nokia icons. They look like candy/sweets.

Now, you guys, unless you’re a developer, your choice is limited to the N9, but if both were available for the public, which would you prefer? Nokia N9 or Nokia N950?
Cheers for the tip, hexpoll and adnan

another one… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3snnxITzso (also coming from the same event you posted)
I was lucky to be there, when it was introduced
physical keyboards are a dead weight.
Buttons at all, that is why Nokia N9 lacks keys entirely.
Exactly, if the on-screen keyboard is done as perfectly as the iPhone’s there is no need for a hardware keyboard.
i would prefer the N950 physical keyboard is so much better and faster
As much as I like the N950 and its keyboard, I still prefer the N9 and its looks. It way more modern and deligthful to look at.
Plus that N950 looks awfully fat in that pic, don´t you think?
Don’t forget the N950 is aimed at developers. So the amount of “polish” that has gone into the physical device will be tiny compared to what was put into the N9.
If Nokia decide to bring out a keyboard MeeGo for end users I would expect them to let loose Marko Ahtisaari and his design team as part of that exercise. But for the N950, it’s simply not needed
i see that in the video that the apps view does not have landscape mode. therefore based on that, nokia is doomed. worst than rim and everything. eldar’s February prediction on nokia take over by Microsoft is confirmed.
I see that on my iphone apps view does not have landscape mode. therefore bsed on that, apple is doomed. worst than rim and everything.
One should not rule out the other, the more the merrier. People like choices (except Apple-boys).
If me , I want keyboard base, so I hope the N950…..
+1
+1
Originally, I also wanted the N950, because of the keyboard. But seeing this comparison, N9 looks waaaaay better to my eyes. So N9, here I come, replacing my N8.
N950 looks very sexy in black, i even prefer it to N9
N950 could easily find its buyers, very sad that they do not release it to the public. When there is an almost finished product.
The mobiles that reach end users will fetch high prices in the secondary market. There are many N900 buyers who want a sequel with a hardware keyboard.
Agree
The Nokia N950 IS WHAT WE SHOULD HAVE HAD IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
The N9 is ugly. It doesn’t fit with the other models in the line. The N950 has the shape like the N8 and E7, and that is what should have ended up being the “N9″.
Nokia, RELEASE THE N950 AS A REGULAR PHONE!!!!!!!!!! It’s what we’ve been wanting since the beginning, and you put it on the backburner and make this atrocious looking new one, and then make it a developer only phone? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!!!! This is why you are failing!!!
GIVE US THE N950!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Uhmm everyone is entitled to their opinion but what you say makes no sense at all.
There is a reason why this is a developer phone. This phone is just to test out new software that will be developed for Meego, not just for the N9 but any upcoming devices that might include a physical keyboard.
After looking at them for a while now, I think I prefer the N9 now. Especially the cyan and maybe even the magenta one. The black N9 seems to hide it’s design too much. But the cyan really shows the nice shape of the device. It would have been great to have other colours too, maybe (slightly dark) green and reddish brown.
The N950 would have been a great product for people who prefer physical keyboards, so I don’t really see why they are not releasing it (or a refreshed design, based on the curves of the N9). (And after seeing the innovation in software and hardware they’re doing with the N9, I think going with WP7 is purely madness.)
It seems the virtual keyboard and the touch user interface are really well thought in the N9, so I wouldn’t need a physical keyboard. (And if I wanted one for development, I’d use a full size bluetooth keyboard.)
So, I’m going for the N9. It seems to be far superior to anything in the market.
If it was available, i’d get the 950
Where is the landscape mode?
I’d go for the N9 regardless. The lack of warranty concerns me, particularly given that it was apparently axed due to carriers rejecting it because of the lack of hinge quality. It might just be there for developers because they already did a production run and didn’t want it to go entirely to waste.
“axed due to carriers rejecting it because of the lack of hinge quality.”
Nokia make the best quality phones, I don’t no where you heard that from! If there was a problem, then they would simply improve it. And if that was the case about hinges, then almost all other branded phones with Qwerty keyboards would be axed!
I love both of them, but I think I love the N950 a little bit more, since it was my dream phone from the time it was leaked last year,…
But the N950 was originally the Nokia N9…Remember the leaked video last year(that was removed)and pics, showed the model number next to the keyboard “N9″ and now they changed it to “N950″
I still prefer that anodized aluminium. Even with it, like on my E7, call quality and reception was still amazing.
For ex-Blackberry users, the N950 promises a dream blend of fast text input and digital camera replacement.
Yes, a keyboard phone is thicker than a non-keyboard phone. But the N950 is smaller, lighter and more functional than any of the combinations needed to achieve comparable functionality:
* Blackberry + N8
* Blackberry/Droid/E72/N900 + Digital Camera
Let’s hope that LG / Panasonic / Huawei can track this unmet consumer demand and develop a Meego keyboard phone.
The bright colors of AMOLED screen on N9 is way better than TFT screen on N950. And these comparison pics show the difference very well.
As a current N97 owner I would die for the N950! That phone looks good!!!
People can say what they want but nothing beats a real qwerty keyboard!!! No on-screen keyboard will ever match it!!!!
Just hurry up Nokia and announce the N950 and fix the landscape mode for all views!!!
agree…I too have a n97 and been waiting for the release of the n9, which is now the n950! …ticks all the boxes and a worthwhile replacement… Nokia just goes to show that you can’t always get what you want
I will choose N950 if it will relased for everyone.
I prefer the n950 design than N9 but i’d like one without keyboard
The Nokia N950, basically an N900 with two essential enhancements: a larger screen and a better keyboard. Throw in a faster processor, an even better camera, and Meego (building on the solid foundation of Maemo 5), and you’ve got a winner on your hands (which you do, because you did all three).
So, what’s not to like about it? Pretty much the only problem with it is the fact that it’s not available for purchase! Well, that and perhaps the lack of a stylus (call me old-fashioned, but I find them very useful).
Please listen to us N900 owners and fans of the nascent N950, Nokia. You’re simply not getting another $500 from me until you come out with a polished up and fully supported N950 (preferably with a stylus). Come on, let’s do this!
