Tabco Tablet unveiled August 15 – any hope it’s Nokia related?

If you check out the promoted trending tweets, you’ll notice that TabCo has taken to the stage. That’s got to take some dough huh? Part of that 80 Million pound advertising budget to reposition the Nokia Brand?

When we first heard of TabCo, we thought things pointed to Nokia.

  • The “WeAreMaemo” account being deleted from twitter, but another reborn as “WeAreTabco”.
  • Constant Elopness about not being just another tablet (hence why Nokia’s the only one without a next gen tablet – we already did internet tablets)
  • Not an Android or Apple
  • Supposedly entirely different (BB Playbook and WebOS touchpad are already on the market and thus would not be different)
  • But equally some comments suggested it could be HP or Motorola.
Just last week a couple of guys pointed out that the domain data for WhoIsTabco.com and Nokia’s “Aerial’s Crew” were identical. However, it could be possibly that just a very widely used anonymizer was used (and hence many other sites appear with these details)
Who ever they are, they sure do think they’ve got something special to keep trying to string people along with their mysterious ways (and what with #N9Seconds, that might be pushing you guys a bit too far off the edge.

Now, Nokia’s N9Seconds campaign had something called “Aerial’s crew” (aka aerial screw).

One thing that puts me off it being Nokia is that I think they’ve said it’s coming this year. I doubt Nokia can get their act together that quickly by this year. Possibly just an announcement though. Also they said their CEO looks good in skinny jeans. Elop in skinny jeans? erm. No thanks.
Who ever they may be, we’ll find out by August 15th.

DGUI is totally convinced and has a long blog post as to why these folks are Nokia.
We will eventually one way or another get a proper Nokia tablet, that isn’t just another Me Too.
  • I’m not going to announce a tablet here today, but let me make a high level point, more specific to tablets: Whether between your PC, phone, tablet, gaming console, tv, car, whatever, clearly that connect, totality experience will define what consumers are looking for. For a company like ours that’s important. We may do it through our own products or through partnering..
  • Walt: So you will make a tablet?
  • We’ll have to address that whole space
