Tabco Tablet unveiled August 15 – any hope it’s Nokia related?
If you check out the promoted trending tweets, you’ll notice that TabCo has taken to the stage. That’s got to take some dough huh? Part of that 80 Million pound advertising budget to reposition the Nokia Brand?
When we first heard of TabCo, we thought things pointed to Nokia.
- The “WeAreMaemo” account being deleted from twitter, but another reborn as “WeAreTabco”.
- Constant Elopness about not being just another tablet (hence why Nokia’s the only one without a next gen tablet – we already did internet tablets)
- Not an Android or Apple
- Supposedly entirely different (BB Playbook and WebOS touchpad are already on the market and thus would not be different)
- But equally some comments suggested it could be HP or Motorola.

“They say anything’s possible in New York. We like and embrace that attitude. Because of this, we didn’t just want to tell you our launch date; we wanted to show you. When you see what lights up the night in New York, you just might say, “Aha!” We want you to feel the same thrill that our CEO had when an “Aha!” moment inspired the creation of TabCo. And when you come out of the gates with something as over-the-top as writing a message out in the sky, there’s only so much more you can do (fun fact: each letter was actually the size of the Empire State Building). We knew this had to be big—literally. And how much bigger can you get than the tallest building in the most populated city in the US? Just think—if we can pull this off, wait till you see our tablet on August 15th.”
- I’m not going to announce a tablet here today, but let me make a high level point, more specific to tablets: Whether between your PC, phone, tablet, gaming console, tv, car, whatever, clearly that connect, totality experience will define what consumers are looking for. For a company like ours that’s important. We may do it through our own products or through partnering..
- Walt: So you will make a tablet?
- We’ll have to address that whole space

Could it be the LiMO OS? They use the circle style interface.
Also, Elop stated in an internal memo to Nokia;
“…at this rate, by the end of 2011, we might have only one MeeGo product in the market.”
Um, Elop’s claims that there was no way to extend support to other TI-based SoCs was utter crap.
It’s since been rebuffed by one of his own prototyping engineers.
“And” he explained why MeeGo is actually in a “better” position to adapt to more SoC variations, more quickly than WP.

But the mainstream US blogs didn’t want to run with that, surprise, surprise.

I think that TabCo will turn out to be INQ and they will be offering a tablet running either a custom OS or more likely Android running a UI layer that emphasizes circles.
Their current UI uses circles as a theme and the Q in INQ is also a very circular graphic.
Further to that, their CEO “I”a”N” “Q”uincy seems to use the same letters as the company name.
Anyway, that’s my prediction.
@fraughtwith
It might just be me, but a year after the “3 year old” solved the Rubic’s cube, Nokia had 100% coverage on their mobile devices. Seems like a longshot, but either way, I can’t wait to see what TabCo brings to the table…
Interesting comment about Transformers in the 20 questions answered.
Something like does it come with Megan Fox? Reply was something like “no but you can watch Transformers with it”.
Didn’t Nokia promote X7 in Transformers?
