Windows Phone Tango – Nokia and the lower end Windows Phones.

You might think of a dance when you hear Tango, but being in the UK, I think of the above picture.

Windows Phone version naming schemes end in “O”. NoDo, Mango and the two upcoming Tango and Apollo. It’s rumoured that Nokia’s “stamp” and high end stuff appears later with Apollo (WP8?). But ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, (her sources have been giving pretty solid insider MS news),  writes that Tango  is “all about Nokia” reaching those lower price points (that were once just reserved for Symbian). Something Nokia had mentioned before during the early days of the partnership (that Nokia would bring Windows Phone through several price points, transitioning to the places where Symbian once was).

Remember Yesterday, when Google had the audacity to claim to be the only OS in that space, well the only ‘modern’ OS. For now maybe until Windows or (hopefully not, cheap iPhone nano goes). They also understand the importance of catering to both high, low and middle price points.

WMPoweruser suggest possible 100USD realm (without contract)

Note, Microsoft is on the ball with Windows Phone releases. Mango was already finished and in the hands of manufacturers. The next early build (Tango) had already been leaked.
