Video: Symbian Anna Software Update: Overview of New Features (Changelog)
Another new video from Nokia about Symbian Anna. A lot of you have already been updating to this today as Anna has officially been released. Middle of August start, hopefully more people will get it by the end of August (though if your phone is locked to a network, it may take some time)

There’s about 18 things there listed. Perhaps the other 32+ (to make it the 50+ update) is part of point 18 “Over 100 under-the-hood optimisations and bug fixes. In general this means you’ll notice both smoother and faster operations during usage.”.
It’s a shame after waiting so long THIS is what we’re seeing, especially as Belle brings a lot more of the visual changes – which is what everyone has been wanting from Symbian for so long.
Ah well be glad that one part of the wait is over. You can now start waiting for Official release of Belle. Note that it may be available sooner than you think. At least, not the epic wait he did for PR2.0/Anna.

My favorite Anna feature sofar: Company name in contacts list. Been waiting for that in symbian for 8 years now.
Although not ‘Company Name’ my non Anna phone aka PR1.2 has the option to add ‘Company’, which is free text, against any contact.

I’ve been a Symbian user since 2003, and Nokia 3650. Every business contact I entered, I used to enter like this:
Name: John
Surname: Doe (Oracle)
Company: Oracle
Since list of contacts only shows “Name Surname”, adding company is extremely helpful with hundreds of business contacts of people you barely know, but must talk to semi-regularly.
Now in my E7 in Anna, all contacts are displayed like this:
John Doe, Oracle
Oh you meant adding the company name instead of the last name … Actually thats brilliant i should totally use this , Though i’m basking in Belle which means it’ll be lots of fun …
I can’t go back to Anna after using Belle. The only real issue is that Opera doesn’t work but new browser is almost as good so no problem there.
I’m surrounded by free high speed Wi-Fi at Home,Work (which is right under my home) and at my friends house, meaning (fuck Opera)…
I think we people should create our own ecosystem until Anna catches up …
writing this with my darling Anna on the portrait qwerty!!!!lol. The browser is bloody fast! overall speed on the device has improved a lot. The portrait qwerty is very precise i must say. The mail client looks and feels refreshed. It certainly is a welcomed change.

guys who lost office and adobe follow this : advance your phone date to one week and check software update….there are 4 updates symbian anna(1/2) symbian anna (2/2) ovi store and social….total 51mb…..quick office and adobe (split screen key board and multi-touch zoom support) communicator,ovistore,social,notifications,internet radio included………you need to change date coz once you refresh software update app in a date it will not show any new updates even if there are till like a day or two so advance your device date and refresh software update app and you will be promted with above mentioned apps…..enjoy

UNSTALL SYWPE and SKPE…its works for me. 1st make sure u turn ur phone on and off 1st, then go stright to apps,then unstall stall them both……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….GOT THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don’t kid your self , i’m using Belle and the problem is still there , the thing is there was two batches of Screens the first was horrible the second well its not easily spotted but its shades of black are tainted like hell and because Belle is full of black magical UI my experience got worse
But still Belle rocks (FLASH YOUR DEVICES you’re missing out)

Am I the only 1 that likes the current icons? The new round buttons take up more screen realestate & thus cover the wallpaper. The current ones are “cutout” and more interesting looking w/ an invisible background.
I like them too. I’ve downloaded Anna themes even before the update because I quite like how the icons look.
Did anybody notice that the icons of most 3-rd party apps look way bigger than earlier??

The update is available in Romania. It comes in 3:
First time you get a 28mb update called “Nokia N8-00 Software update”
Downloaded, installed then restarted phone.
Then 2 more updates pop up like this: “Symbian Anna Software 1/2 (required)”
and “Symbian Anna Software 2/2 (important)”
Installed them both and restarted again, and Viola! Everything done with no backup required.
There are LOTS of minor changes, and few major ones also. I’ll talk about some.
First I’d like to say that performance overall has been improved clearly… like loading times are shorter, animations are smoother, scrolling is faster and smoother, and gaming FPS higher etc.
There’s also improved RAM management! For start, I get more free RAM after phone restart, around 140mb (CRAZY!! Even I have 3 Homescreens full of widgets, And I have big bunch of apps&themes installed and using around 12/16GB available memory)
Also RAM doesn’t get wasted alone over time, like it did if you didn’t restart your phone often.
And the best thing I liked about the update, and I’ve been anticipating since I bought the phone, is the response time of audio! Yes! Now I can watch movies on my phone without slight difference between video and audio. You can clearly see the improvement by (for example) playing a pool game. The sound when you hit the ball comes EXACTLY when you HIT THE BALL, not 1 sec after. Try Fruit Ninja also. The slicing sound comes EXACTLY when you slice. etc.
2 Things I didn’t like about this update are:
1st: The draggable homescreens. They are very choppy and not that fun as I excepted. I still prefer the old sliding.
2nd: They still didn’t enable editing of song details! That was really missed by many symbian^3 users who used symbian^1.
Anyway, nice update overall. But it didn’t need 8-9 months for nokia to release it. Hoping Belle won’t take more than 3 months from now to arrive (That if Nokia wants to keep up, and recover their reputation)
I’m not seeing Update 2/2 .. Installed 1/2 just fine, no second part. Anyone knows what 2/2 is, and why it did not get delivered to my E7?
You got the update in Romania? I have an E7 and… “No updates available”… Tried OTA, Ovi Suite and Nokia Software Updater… The same result… Isn’t the update released for all Symbian^3 devices at the same time? Why?
@faffy: Maybe it’s only for the N8… I don’t know but it shouldn’t take more than a week to be available to ALL symbian^3 devices worldwide I guess?
@Postm: Part 1 is about important updates to the firmware I think. But the second one is not necessary, it only updates QuickOffice and Adobe Reader and adds some apps like shazam etc. Did you try the “change your phone’s date” trick?
I’m starting to think that something’s wrong, all-over the internet people say that in Romania the update was released… I still can’t update my E7… Damn, Nokia, what’s the problem?
the photos (saved under multi level custom folders) that i saved in the memory card (not the mass memory) doesn’t seem to show up in the photo gallery. but the videos are being picked up in the video gallery even if they are on similar multi level custom folders.
Fast forwarded to 22.08.2011, and got the 51 mb 4-part download, and QuickOffice/Adobe Reader are back!
Has anyone tried the Search application. I feel it is not as good as it used to be. Earlier, I could do a phone number search to identify a contact, but now it doesn’t seem to be possible.
Its it just me or has the camera’s night mode quality been reduced?

when using he browser it will not connect to my wifi (even though it asks for an access point)
i have to exit the browser and manually connect to the net before the browser will work
another issue when going to a webpage requiring a login/pw the browser shows my login and password in the address bar.
the browsers going to need some fixes
Symbian Anna will be delivered to the swiss customers in current september 2011… dixit Nokia Care in Switzerland.

i own a grey n8, bought it last year september at mediamarkt in germany. it once had to take it there, but only to get the lower plastic hud (the one with the bottom) replaced, it broke when the n8 fell on the ground. anyways, i can’t remember what PC the n8 had before, now i do have the (what i found out so far) international swap phone code 059B6D7, which leaves me blank in regard to the anna update. tried it min. 50 times with ota, tried it with ovi suite and also software updater, both windows and mac.. nada!
question: will the update come for those swap devices? if not, is there a way to get anna on that thing? i really like the n8, as it is the only serious choice you can make these days, but its getting more and more frustrating.. please, help out!
all other features are same as shown in anna but my photogallery is not same as shown in pictures…. It is improves though.. Pictures size is larger …… Is dat the same in all updates??????
symbian anna is cool but a lot of features missing…
1.browser dnt hav clear catche ,cookies option.
2.menu view is still old,,they shoul have changed to sliding menus as android..
3.no notification bar which shows data usages.
4.gallery should hav seperate folders like photos and videos
5.some pages in browser is not zoomable..
