Symbian Anna update trending on twitter worldwide

| August 18, 2011 | 21 Replies

Wow, I was at the trending topics, surprised that the UK students are able to make these qualifications trend world wide….when in that list…is (or was) Symbian Anna.

Symbian Anna is officially available today.

It’s not there any more (I was not able to publish this due to server issues – Anna postings too popular due to official release and end of the 8+ month long wait) but well, it was, and there were enough Nokia users tweeting to get it trending.

Yep folks, when you have an installed base of 250 million to 300 million (vs. little old iPhone or Android with only 100 million each), a major update becomes that seriously important, yes even though that update is only for several tens of millions of those devices – the larger community is still interested.

    • Michael Faro-Tusino says:

      + infinity

    • Jay Montano says:

Yes that’s true. Although there aren’t 250 Million Symbian^3 phones to update. Not even 100 Million. Yet.

    • Hypnopottamus says:

vs. “little old iPhone or Android,” it’s good that Symbian^3 finally is getting closer up to speed. Now all that’s left is Belle. On you get that, maybe Symbian will start getting a little respect from it’s other competitors.

      • Ninja says:

You don’t need respect when you’re installed base is 2.5 times that of your competitors and will remain out in front for at least 2 or 3 years even if no more Symbians were sold from today (remembering in fact another 150 million are due to be sold).

        • Hypnopottamus says:

You are thinking very short term here Ninja. The fact of the matter is that Symbian was losing ground to the competition. The user base you constantly bring up is there because for a time, Symbian was pretty much the ONLY smartphone platform that meant anything. Now other platforms have risen and are arguably (I say that b/c people have diff. needs)better. People have jumped ship. You can’t sustain a “leadership” role if people are constantly leaving. There will come a time where the competition will be even w/ Symbian in userbase #s. What are you going to do then? Reminisce about how in the past you once had 2.5 times more userbase than the competition?

So, yeah, you do need respect otherwise you risk becoming irrelevant.

Concerning the update…good job Nokia and FINALLY!

        • John says:

Nokia boasting of how many phones they sold and how many people never helped anyone in any way.

Once a manufacturer starts boasting numbers rather than keeping their platform interesting then you know something is wrong.

I don’t care how many Nokia phones are out there fact of the matter is Nokia where so proud of their number, they forgot that their phones where getting worse and people bought them not because they are good but because they are cheap.

    Well that’s funny.
Eilat is rated more than Symbian Anna.
(Its a tourism city in Israel)

  3. observer says:

Eilat is higher rated because of this.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-14573559

  4. NOKIA says:

    • Ninja says:

Well you’re correct but real Nokia wouldn’t have got the code wrong – it’s *#0000# nor would they have spelling and grammatical errors, use so many exclamation marks or sound so overexcited… nice try tho :)

  5. ssdh says:

Can anyone do an HTML 5 Test for the Anna browser?? Thanks..

    • ammar says:

      html5test right ?
i just did it this very moment
130 points and no bonus points
i just did right now >>NOKIA N8 with Symbian Anna

  6. ron says:

i downloaded anna on my n8 and now i cant open may conversation meaning i cant read my text. and the update keep coming out. n8 is really my last nokia phone. they cant even get their upgrade right!

    • talhatayyab says:

ron, i suffered a minor annoying glitch with my own update on c7. It’s easy to fix though.
First, back up you’re entire data from mass memory and phone storage to pc. Also back up messages, contacts etc. Then go to settings>phone>phone management>factory settings>delete and restore.
This will reset your device while keeping nokia preinstalled applications intact. After restarting you can restore your data and it will be good as new.

  7. John says:

The fact that an update as insignificant as Symbian Anna (compared to other OS’s at least) shows Nokia’s strong brand value is there, battered but still there.

  8. Marcio says:

fuck nokia… Brazil is probably one of their largest markets and symbian anna has not been released here yet… nokia Brazil refuses to give information saying they’re still testing the OS… FUCK YOU nokia… im getting a galaxy s2 or an iphone…

  9. Phil says:

brazil is the third major market for Nokia, behind India and China i guess…

  10. Paulo says:

Not releasing it to Brazil is a huge let down for me. I’ve been waiting for months till the Symbian Anna come out, and now I can’t update.

    Great…

And yes, Brazil is a huge nokia market. And that came out as a lack of respect to us.
