fMobi available at Ovi Store (and featured on Nokia Conversations)

| August 30, 2011 | 30 Replies

You guys have been following and supporting the progress of so very closely, downloading the latest versions, submitting bug info/requesting new features.

A reader named vale tipped us to say it’s now availabe in Ovi Store. This is a great thing as folks who don’t read blogs or keep up with the twitter buzz can find this new facebook application all on their own from Ovi Store. Finally, more people can be rescued from that hideous monstrosity called Nokia Social (why it is still crap to this day I do not know). Though it will not be free, it is there at a very palatable, developer supporting £1.50 (and subsequent currency equivalents).

There’s also even a featured post about it at Nokia Conversations.

Just recently, it won a battle of the facebook apps at all about Symbian.

We don’t normally follow any app so closely on its journey, but this one had some big claims and proved how much progress one guy alone can make with Qt, and hopefully now in Ovi Store too.

Congrats Juuso Kosonen :)

Off Topic:

(I tried making this post earlier this morning on my touchpad to the surprise you cannot upload images in browser. Everytime a browser fails to do something, it makes me yearn for MicroB which in 2009 could do everything my desktop browser did. A true mobile computer. So much for being a “web” OS)

Cracking app – will buy this, even though I only downloaded the “beta” yesterday.
One question – is this the latest version on Ovi Store?

  5. Jonobo says:

Bought it. There is no question about it; credit where credit is due and money to those who deserve it :)

  6. Bhavanishankar says:

I have never bought any app since paid app is available only now India. This will be my first app :) . For future updates, Do I need to pay again? And if I re-install the OS/ Hard reset, Do I need to buy again?

    • asdf says:

All application updates are available free from Ovi Store after purchase. You can also redownload them without charge if they get deleted for some reason or other. So no need to pay again unless Juuso decides to release a bigger update as a separate app, like fMobi 2.0.

ovi in the philippines only shows free content! does this mean that we will be stuck with the v1.3.3 beta version forever? :(

Indeed – the N900 is still my main phone and MicroB remains brilliant 2 years on!

Ha, I have recurring resentment every time I have some limitation on the web on mobile that I knew Nokia already perfected in 2009. Damn them for leaving Maemo.

Apparently N9 has the same issue of not being able to upload within browser (according to current users of MeeGo-Harmattan). Also there’s no flash out of the box.

      • Banderpop says:

        Really?

I often use my N8 to upload videos to Youtube via the regular browser. It can sometimes take several hours and so I’d rather do it overnight with a machine that’s quiet, rather than a power hungry PC with hard disks clicking and fans spinning.

If the N9 can’t do basic things like this, I’m not sure if I have much need for its admittedly amazing multitasking.

        Source?

Everything I’ve read suggests it’s a browser that’s just a powerful/compelling as microB, if not more.
For everything else inc. the kitchen sink there’ll be Fennec, as always.

[Also there’s no flash out of the box.]

Still a WIP, although looking increasing unlikely as each day passes

  12. joe says:

    hello

i had the beta of 1.31.
I have deleted this from my phone and then bought the official one from ovi store.

But this version cannot be installed on my N8 i get a install error everytime..

    What could cause this conflict?

I’ve just recently purchased and started using this app on my Nokia n8 and its awesome. Almost perfect. I’ve tried sooo many other crappy facebook apps and this one is by far in a league of its own. There are just a few important things I’ve noticed i cant do. 1. Is that i cant see mutual friends or friends of friends which especially makes new friend requests a little confusing i Dont really like excepting random people. 2. Is that i cant access friends contact details or phone numbers. I often use face book to call friends who aren’t online. 3. I also noticed i can’t create new places on the check in feature. This is the first time its actually worked properly in any of the apps I’ve used so it would be cool to be able to do everything. Other than that its gr8 but i still have to use other apps to do a couple of things. It would be a relief to be able to delete all those other apps and just use fmobi. Thanks :)

I’d purchased fmobi from ovi store, but i can’t update to v2.3(1).
I’d contact nokia support, but no solution, they tell me for refund (because old app h’been uninstall and don’t know how to get anything version of fmobi). So I’d rejected to refund, ‘couse the problem is not about money, but about I love and need this app for my n8-00 so much.
pls help me how to i get my fmobi agai :(
