Hey folks, a few of you emailed this in today. Nokia Conversations notes that Microsoft Apps are coming to Symbian.

http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/09/08/microsoft-apps-are-coming-to-symbian/

The following are free apps to Symbian Belle, this means new Belle handsets AND those upgrading from Anna to Belle.

  • Microsoft® Lyncâ„¢ 2010 Mobile – for cost efficient IM, presence, audio and web meetings on-the-go.
  • Microsoft® PowerPoint® Broadcast – quick broadcast of presentations directly from PC to mobile.
  • Microsoft® OneNoteâ„¢ – rich note taking with images. Syncs with Microsoft® SkyDrive®.
  • Microsoft® Document Connection – single view to documents stored on mobile, including email attachments as well as documents on Microsoft® SharePoint® 2010 sites.
Something else of interest. Nokia Conversations again confirms of another update AFTER Belle. Is it the Symbian C _ _ _ _  that you guys have been speculating the name of??
“If that wasn’t enough, a second update in early 2012 will add: Microsoft OneNote sync with SharePoint (in addition to SkyDrive)”
Here’s a link to the press release:
This also says, “An update in the first half of 2012 will introduce Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as native applications for the first time outside the Windows platform”
Whilst it’s possible they could be talking just about the update to the Microsoft apps, its highly likely they’re talking about Symbian C _ _ _ _.
Anyway. It’s a great move. Get more people used to the Microsoft Suite of apps, particularly One Note with Sky Drive. Then transition them to Windows Phone.
UPDATE: Check this out. All About Symbian has some screenshots of these MS apps on Belle.
