Nokia Sea Ray Silicone Cases spotted in Nokia’s N9 video (and some random ‘white’ phones)

| September 15, 2011 | 26 Replies

CJ Posted a video asking whether the N9′s he spotted are those special White and possibly even green ones.

I think those are just additional cases.

There were some other things that caught my eye in the video

1) Sea Ray Silicone Cases.

  • Note the position of the N9′s LED which is above the camera when held in landscape (or is on the left as you view the above picture)
  • Check out the lock button for Sea Ray
  • Check out the camera button for Sea Ray

2) What are these white phones? Are these competitor phones wrapped in white cases? Or just design ideas for phones (see that random mini keyboard below). It could very likely be the latter what with this being a video about design.

The white phone closest to us doesn’t look like the standard aspect ratio screen wise.

3) Also check out the colour swatches – seeing how they consider some of the colours for N9 (this possibly the later stages as there are no other bolder colours). Note also White, Neutral Grey, Red and Nude.

Hmmm…The stack of white phones, at least the one on top facing up, has bezel; so perhaps WP.

Hopefully, there will be a bevy of colors available even if they are in the form of cases. What would be cool is if Nokia included at least one case (a complimentary color to the phone) in the box.

  2. ravo says:

why cant they take out all the colors at the same time

wow look at the screen size on the white silicon phone, it is definitely bigger than the n9. could be another sea ray device. most likely the first sea ray will be the one with the LED above. but the white more rectangular device is different and really thin too. very interesting

    On the left .. N8/E7

    Far-off .. N9

On the right .. Windows Phone Prototypes (see the bottom black space .. for the 3 standard buttons ??)

  5. Someone says:

So cases is all what Nokia has got to show us? Show us some phones ffs.

  6. Jeettak says:

Those are not silicone cases, they are the actual polycarbonate body of the Sea Ray phone, without any components. You can tell they are Sea Ray by the placement of the LED flash. On The Sea Ray device the LED flash is next to the Camera module, on the N9 they are above it.

Nokia are trying really hard to keep it a secret, aren’t they?

See at 0:40 in the video (on the white sticky note)!

I don ‘t think those white things are phones at all, in early design phases they make ‘dummy’ phones, phones that don’t work just like some display units, they can then alter the design before sending it to a manufacturer for early prototypes as prototypes cost a lot to make. They’re all just stacks of plastic for the designer to work from… That’s my opinion…

@DGui…Good point. But would be a wonderful surprise if the SeaRay came in Limited Edition White :)

      • DGui says:

I’m actually pretty sure that a White version will come. Like the Pink N8. We saw it’s renderings and stuff so why not? And in this video White is emphasised a lot…

thats the most stunning phone design I’ve ever seen. sigh

I saw someone with a cyan N9 in a clothing store today. Looked pretty sleek.

Jay those white N9′s in pictures 3 and 4 are definitely dummies and samples. During the design process, designers usually come up with a lot of different sizes shapes to try and find the best one.

I reckon a couple of those are definitely destined to be used for Windows Phones as well

The thought of a N9 running Windows Phone is very exciting. :-D
