One Direction launch their new Nokia Mobile Phones at The Carphone Warehouse

We’ve talked about the brilliant use of current tweener-friendly celebs for Nokia before.  Nokia have once again, taken up the One Direction boys to launch their new Nokia Mobile phone at Carphone Warehouse (which they had previously mentioned was going to launch in October).  As we’ve mentioned before, this is a very good commercial opportunity. I don’t know what it is with internet-age pre-teen and teenage girls, but they can garner the biggest obsession over the next teen idol. What ever that idol does and says goes. Many are pretty scary. I mean, dis these guys or someone like Bieber publicly and you may find yourself in the boot of their parent’s car.

Here it has worked effectively in getting a massive queue of people, waiting in line to see a Nokia phone – and not even a high end one at that. Well, really, we know they’re after that boyband, but as long as they’re buying stuff or getting Nokia some exposure, who cares :p. Very nicely done getting some 1D (apparently that’s a nickname) sleeves for the phones. Good brand association at least.

On a serious note, these guys have got it pretty well made. Money, fame, adoring females (there’s some mums there too, lolol).

The annoying thing is clearly, these guys use iPhones. I’m yet to see a celeb who tweets from anything but a BlackBerry or an iPhone. Those two are too much of a standard and iconic devices. Even Androids with all their success have yet to reach that mindshare amongst that fame and fortune crowd.
