Symbian still top Smartphone OS by mobile internet use says statcounter

Steve litchfield from AllAboutSymbian reports on findings by statcounter showing Symbian to have the most mobile web users than any other platform, above iOS, Android, BlackBerry etc.

Although everyone likes to paint the worst picture for Symbian, for a time being, it still has the biggest install base of mobile OS around the world (let’s ignore the frequently used USA statistics because right now, for this piece, USA =/= world. As much as youtube’s location options and such would have you believe).

A chart below from AAS shows cumulative sales of all mobile devices by OS.  I wonder how S40 fits into this. Last year alone, whilst Symbian did an amazing 100,000, cheap, basic (including a lot of S40) accounted for 400,000.

Whilst that’s all good and all, we shouldn’t really celebrate this too much. It’s relishing on performance that has made Symbian stale. Let’s not concentrate on numbers or sales now, but how usable and good Symbian has become with Belle. No one cares really what OS is number 1 – it has to back in up in real world performance and usability.
