Nokia Social Pulled From Nokia Store!!!
Oh Nokia Social Where Art Thou?? Not that I care really-quite happy too, as of today I can no longer find the Nokia Social app on the Nokia/Ovi store. In fact if you do some digging and find the link for the app on the Beta Labs site (after graduation they forward you to the download through Nokia store page) you get a nice old “Item Unavailable”, try for yourself:

Now this leads to two different possibilities either the new improved social app is coming soon (fingers crossed), or someone from Nokia finally tried the app and realized how painful it was to use and had it pulled. Either way make us proud Beta-Labs people we Love you and all your amazing apps (seriously the best Nokia apps are released from the Beta-Labs- if you haven’t checked it out yet do so NOW!: http://betalabs.nokia.com/ ).

Now that Qt also supports split-screen text input (which is essential for a new version) it’s about time to release an all new Qt-based Social app.
Yes, there are much better apps for Twitter and Facebook, but Nokia needs to have its own app to support the most-used Social networks out-of-the-box on Symbian phones.
So I’m all with you and keep my fingers crossed to see a new Social app in Betalabs soon.
if android can get a good version so can symbian ….Qt/QML is there they need to step shit up
If you’re referring to Android’s Facebook app, it’s good because Facebook are the developers of it, like the iPhone.
FB for Android is no good. The best FB client is fMobi.

i don’t know anything about programming (c++ long time ago and bad memories..) but all the stuff i have tried based on QT are real good. the feeling is very “iossy”. hope the will release new social app though fmobi and especially facial are very smooth.

Pixelpipe was the best but it’s no longer on Nokia store anymore.q Can anyone tell me how to make it work again, it’s still on my phone yet but no longer working.

your referring to the app socially.. that’s a semi-3rd party app.

The ticker really annoys me. It only shows like 20 characters yet takes 3-4 seconds to change. Most can read that little bit of text in 1 sec. Then it takes forever for the “refresh” to circle back around.

Nahh knowing the way Nokia treats Symbian nowadays they’re probably dumping the social app and leaving it as such.
By the way, the Beta labs team from Nokia rocks.
My social app got updated 2 days back… and finally it is useable. I can see pictures, I can put my comments, etc. These are basic things which were not working earlier.
So, for sure, updated app must be coming. May be they might update the existing people and get feedback first
Not sure though.

I was so dissapointed about that app when I used my N8 for the first time – and it might be one of the reasons why I deleted my facebook account in the first place…
thanks to Nokia I’m not addicted to social networks any more and can focus on my studies.
Honestly, the only reason i’m using social is because of the photo uploading function directly to facebook and twitter. That’s the only function i use.
Except that it horribly compresses photos, completely destroying the beuty of my N8s captures…
The horrible compression of photos has gone away with the first update of Social. Are you sure you’re using the latest version of Social (1.3.x)?
Ovi Map was also pulled down from store since about one month ago.
If you search for Nokia Map/Ovi Map on the Nokia Store app on the phone; the result no longer shows; and on the desktop Store, it says “Sorry, this item is not available for the Nokia N8-00.Browse more great content in the “Related” section below.”
It’s still there for Symbian Belle devices (e.g. 701).
