Batman Loves Harmattan: Batman Laser Etched Nokia N9
Do you remember the Dark Knight Rises Limited Edition Nokia Lumia 800
http://mynokiablog.com/2011/12/14/special-edition-batman-the-dark-knight-rises-nokia-lumia-800/
Do you also remember that we said the first tested unit was the Nokia N9? We said there was only one in the world.

Well someone has gone and put laser etching on their N9 too. And gone a bit further writing, “Batman loves Harmattan”
As you can see though, like Whatley’s, the etching doesn’t also appear black as you’d expect being that deep black polycarbonate as in the 800. The colour is a little different underneath. Or perhaps that was added as an effect to the etching?.
Check it out at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=81398. I Also got the source as http://www.tinhte.vn/f406/nokia-n9-phien-ban-batman-loves-harmattan-1021651/.
Here’s the Lumia 800 for comparison.

Thanks buzzinga / jody and incognito for the tip!

The N9 one looks so much cooler~!!
wow totally cool. I prefer the N9 version
This proves that Batman prefers the N9 over the Lumia!
I think there is something weird as in the pic with the hand there is a manipulation where it should be the camera of the Lumia 900. So I guess this is still one of the Lumias but the flash has been manipulated in order to appear a N9. Also, the color seems definitively to be incorrect. This should be black underneath the surface as in policarbonate the color is applied to all the structure.
This is a Fake for me.
I don’t care if the picture is photoshopped or not. I love the idea and I’m definitely sure that Batman would choose Harmattan over Windows Phone any day
Batman with the Windows phone would be like he drove a Toyota instead of the unique Batmobile.
I think its a sticker, but still looks pretty neat!

wow, if the bat logo isn’t black it certainly isn’t better looking than lumia’s. It certainly is a great job (if real) but not as good the other.
But I knew the moment I saw the post that all of you were going to say that … you’re very predictable.
I’m the owner of this Nokia N9. I made this laser engrving with a compagny in Vietnam : http://khacten.com/home/ ( in vietnamese)
The batman logo is engraved directly to the N9 body and it has this colour after engraving .
I think the logo in Lumina 800 is engraved before the phone assembly and so it has the black colour.
Maybe the heat got to the color? But it turned out nicely.
Drawn By a large cock Would Look better

fake..
This guy had a Lumia and edited the photo to make it look like an N9 :L
LOL @ all people here calling it a fake – check the source links first (with hi res photos of it), then judge. Sure, technically it could be a fake, but it would take far more effort to fake it to appear the same in all angles, than to just take it to laser engraving.
As for the color, that’s the side effect, usually favorable as it is far more noticeable, of laser-etching, especially on plastic – laser etches the desired image by burning the surface up to a certain depth (depends on how much power you give it), and every material will give you different color when burned – for example aluminum would have dark-grey color, and copper will have a greenish hue because of the oxidation, and obviously the black polycarbonate has a light gray with a brownish tint color, depending of the intensity of course.
If you want to have the original color, you can remove the top layer with some reactive chemicals after it’s burned by the etching, or you could use a CNC to mill the etching instead of burning it with a laser. Either way, I wouldn’t dare to do this on my N9 without first trying and calibrating it on a dummy piece of polycarbonate.
For those commenting on the different colour, I’d just like to remind that in our previous batman posts, we did discuss how the very first batman etched phone was a Nokia N9, and the colour did not come through because the polycarbonate material is slightly different to the polycarbonate in the Nokia Lumia 800. The latter is black all the way through even with etching, and yes, they were etched after they were made, not before as one comment above suggests.
next week, i do the same thing with my N9… “a superhero chose the original, not the fake”(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-wixL8RNhQF8/Ttvqs5eTUuI/AAAAAAAAKbM/zQ98XLi8gy0/350493746.png)
