eBuddy XMS for MeeGo and WP7 out of Beta

| January 19, 2012 | 19 Replies

The latest SMS alternative for Nokia Phones, eBuddy XMS has finally graduated out of Beta status. (Surprising since the last version on both N9 and Lumia were quite buggy. Lumia being slightly better.) I can’t seem to find any sort of changelog so I hope this isn’t the same as the last beta release.

If you have the Betas installed, it is recommended that you uninstall beta and then install the current release. This will also be helpful when new versions are released, as update notifications should then be pushed to your device.

Unfortunately, there is no word (at least none that I have heard, prove me wrong in comments section) about the Betas for Symbian and S60/S40 graduating to a “stable” release.

For both Meego and WP, the developer blurb states:

New eBuddy XMS – Do more than SMS!*
• Free, real-time messaging for smartphones*
• Message any way you want – with text, emoticons and more

Coming soon: picture sending, video sending, group chat and more!

It would be nice if there were links on the eBuddyXMS webpage, to raise awareness a bit more, but for now, I am sure we are just grateful we have an alternative to WhatsApp on the N9.

Thanks..By the way can anyone tell me if still the NEED FOR SPEED and OPERA BROWSER hang for few seconds while they are working on newer belle shipped devices which have 512MB RAM and 1GHz CPU?
    Regards.

There’s a beta, google for ebuddy xms symbian and you’ll find it. Seems to be merciless to battery though… (I only tested it yesterday though)

I find that all these PUSH chat clients seems to be some type of fashion apps that people use for a while until some new “cool” with new name comes around.

Never ending story as it is with the Chat clients. Friends are divided to many different and then you need to always have account to every chat out there.

It really sucks if ask me.

cant figure out how to find my xms ID :(

This is still the beta version. But published on the store.

    • Jamison says:

Yeah so much for their beta testing.
      I was following it all…
I guess they decided they wanted larger no’s of labrats.

My wife’s using the Symbian beta on her N8 running Belle right now. It’s stable but it’s not as full featured as the iOS version yet so no funny faces or photo uploads yet. At least it’s a nice free sms service.

  10. Bertie says:

I tried WhatsApp on Symbian and I uninstalled it because it would automatically connect on startup and even if I quit the background service, it would reconnect again. There wasn’t any setting to change that.
    Is This app different?

  11. Cupraddict says:

It will replace Whatsapp or not? if i have a friend who is using whatsapp, can i speak with him with this app?

    Thx.

    • Jamison says:

So get him to try ebuddy then…
It’s slightly more feature-packed on iOS/Android than it is on MeeGo/WP/Symbian.*
It’s basically just as functional as whatsapp.

*they’re aiming for feature parity on all platforms eventually.
