Back in mid-December we demoed an amazing photo editing application on your Nokia Lumia called Fantasia Painter.

This subsequently had an update for a cool clone efect (with more to come from the developer, Nokola.

We got an email by Nokola three days ago that his app on Windows Phone will also be on Windows 8. He’s managed to get the basic foundations on the Windows 8 consumer Preview already on a 5 year old laptop. The video below is just a very early proof of concept to demo the basic effects.

Nokola says the effects are “insanely fast on this platform!” All the other cool stuff and actual painting is on the to do list but he seems very pleased with the speed of the app and says he’s ‘very excited’.

Now it seems most likely that for an Intel based tablet or desktop of Windows 8 you can go ahead and install photoshop (which is also very expensive). That application is way to technical for me (I’ve given it a go can can barely do anything on it :p) so something like Fantasia Painter where I can just select effects as I go is perfect.

The warp tool is so funny to have on your phone because you can snap a picture and discretely or obscenely edit a photo prior to uploading (or even edit pictures already on facebook as it integrates with it as if they’re also on your phone). The subtle change is funny (like making someone’s head just that slightly bit bigger/longer – they wouldn’t expect such a change to occur so fast and from a phone upload.

It would be interesting to know what the development was like. We heard from MS that a lot of the code from WP apps can just be put into W8 (I forget the specific)
